My first scrape

I turned too much in the garage today and scraped the passenger corner of the front bumper. I scraped the paint totally off and left shallow gouges in three small slivers. Took it to the local body shop....$250 estimate to fill in the small gouges and repaint the corner. They wanted to take care of the small rock pits in the hood, too...they seemed more concerned about that than the bumper (probably because it costs more for them to repaint the hood...).

Oh, well! c'est la vie! Anyway, is $250 too much?

Still loving driving the car, though.

Hard to say if $250 is too much... If you have serious damage, this price looks ok 'cause they may need to repaint the whole bumper, right?

I have dozens of digs in the hood, too... I wonder what's the best way to deal with them.

Good luck...

(Would you shoot some pics for us if possible?)

I did exactly the same thing with my TL and had three scrapes on the corner of the bumper. Went to a body shop and the guy there first said $200 which involved taking off the bumper and painting out and clearcoating the whole left corner. I asked him how much just to touch it up and that was going to be $40. It was a nice day and he wasn't busy and he went ahead and did it for nothing while I watched. Can only see a little bit of a gouge if you look hard for it (thank goodness for NBP). Said I didn't owe him anything, just remember him when the "big one" happened.

Just had a nice little gouge (kid's scooter handle) fixed on my Odyssey. It was $300 at a very reputable shop. That's probably about the going rate for any type of small repair like this.

what does the 250 include?? are they going to repaint the whole bumper? meaning sand it down to the bumper then primer and repaint and clearcoat? if that is what they are going to do then 250 is fair price.

Looks like about $250 or so. If you wanted to get the other front end touchups done it would certainly be cheaper to do all at once than to do it later. It's not much more work.

When we got the work done on the van, the shop owner gave us a small bottle of paint to touchup some stone chips on the hood. They were willing to knock $100 off if we did it with the other work, but on a 4 year old van I can live with a few small dings.

its ok... to make you feel better....

I have:
1) done the same thing you have, but $70 to fix
2) curb checked, scratched part of front driver's wheel
3) drum roll.... i backed into my my garage door when it was closed (i was trying to reverse out of my garage and i thought the door was open)... there is a 1 inch puncture in my trunk, and a scratch on the rear bumper, havent gotten it fixed yet, because i think im gonna do it again. My garage door is slightly bent on the inside too, but still functions perfectly

I guess this is why 17 year olds have such high insurance... when i told my parents what happened they just laughed at me

Thanks for the support, guys. I don't feel so badly. I think I will pay to have my hood chips repaired too. I asked the body shop where I could have a clear bra installed and they told me. In fact, it may be worth just installing on both the hood and bumper as some have done.

I backed into my Durango (waiting to be sold) and cracked a taillight and pushed in the side of the rear bumper - very little scuffing to the paint, just a plastic deformation. It was in the shop for 4 days. Total cost $850 including parts. They had to paint it 3 times to get a match. In fact, the repainted bumper now matches perfectly to the body color.
