My Acura dealership sells Redline?

Finding a good 5w20 'full' synthetic is hard, and Redline is good stuff, but I thought it voided our warranty......So I go into my dealership to pick up an ATF washer and look what I see across the counter....Redline.

So what's this all about anyway?

What makes you think that using it will void the warranty?

A search for redline brings up a few threads with members claiming they have used it. Here is one as an example: Alternative to Honda Z1 ATF Fluid

Just don't mention that you use an alternative ATF if you are going in for service or repairs. They cannot prove that you did not use Honda ATF unless you tell them you didn't use their stuff. I asked the service guys at my dealership about AMSOIL ATF which is spec'd to Honda Z1 and they told me the GM flagged an RSX because it used an aftermarket ATF. I believe the service rep said the owner used redline. Your best bet will be to talk to the service manager or general manager at your local dealership to see where they stand.

But if you are determined to use aftermarket ATF, just don't mention it when you go in for service or repairs. I will swing by my dealership soon and talk to the service manager to see what's up.

Wasnt this thread about engine oil??
- in which case the Redline is fine with warranty and a great product for agressive or heavy traffic driving

ah yes it was in any case...just ask your dealership what's up...each dealership has their own tolerances for what will work and what wont... it never hurts to ask.

Yeah, I was talking about motor oil not ATF. I currently use Amsoil ATF and love the stuff. Anyways---I was under the assumption that Redline isn't ASE certified or whatever, and thought maybe that would become a problem if something went wrong. I'm just looking for the best syn oil out there, and Redline keeps coming up in my searches as well as Amsoil. The Ams 5w20 is only a grade 3 like mobil 1? Thanks for the replies guys.

No man, it was behind the counter. I had never seen redline before that day, so at first I didn't even know what kind of oil it was. The bottles have no fancy packaging what so ever. Just white bottles with lettering on it. This was Acura of Tempe, just in case someone from AZ reads this thread.....

Redline is great stuff- about 9 bucks a quart in parts stores
Penzoil Platinum $6, is the new thing in full synthetics-
being
used by major car race teams, won the SEMA 2004 award for new technology
check the website of each company and decide what you like

Pennzoil platinum, castrol, and mobil "synthetics" are now all "Group III" synthetics, which means that they are actually just highly refined dino oil. (PP used to be a group IV but has recently become a group III, similar to the other two listed) What you want is a IV full synthetic, which means that the base product is full synthetic and wasn't derived from a dino source like group III.
