My 06 TL Seat is a Pain in the Butt - HELP
I just purchased a new 06 TL. Love the car except the drivers seat gives me a real pain in the butt. The hard side bolsters on the bottom cushion dig into the side of my butt and after about 10 minutes, it's very uncomfortable.
I did a search and can't find any other listing of a problem? I'm a decent sized guy, but not huge by any means. I'm 6'1", 190 lbs, 34" waist.
Has anyone else had this problem? How comfortable do you find your seat. Considering how hard and relatively close together the side bolsters are, I would expect them to be pressing into a lot of peoples butts.
I'm at a loss now because I love the car except for the damn seat. Don't know what to do?
Any suggestions or thoughts?

I'm about 6 foot, 150 lbs, and a 32" so about the same. I find it comfortable. Sometimes you have to wear it in a little, I do remember my dad saying the seats were uncomfortable as hell when we first bought it, but its better. Only thing that bugs me in lumbar support.

If I were to venture a guess, it would be your sciatic nerve. Problems here are generally felt along the bottom outside of your thigh. If this is the problem, fold over a towel a few times and place it in the area where the pain occurs and your car's seat.

do you try sitting in different positions? or does it hurt both sides?
try taking your wallet out before you sit down? careful though, i tend to leave it in the car when i get out and buy something

Haha. I'm 5'7" and 180 lbs. I find the back of the seat by the lumbar too loose (33" waist) as well as in the butt region. I find myself sliding around a bit in the turns.

I find it to be fine.
I'm 5'9 190 with a 30" waist.
However, as an example I couldnt own the g35 because of that reason. The seats were uncomfortable. So it could be your leg/torso make up.

Wow, thanks for all the responses. I've tried many different seat configurations and it does hurt on both sides of my butt.
I think you're on to something Southernboy with the sciatic nerve deal. I googled that nerve and it does seem to run right where I'm getting the pain. I'll try a towel and see what happens.
Great car though and I'm glad I found this forum!
Thanks All,
Duane

This is funny ... I have a friend who considered buying a TL over a year ago, and decided not to because "the seat hurt his butt" (his exact words at the time).
I asked him last week before taking delivery of my '06 TL if he could elaborate on that, and all he could come up with is that it "pinched his butt".
Now, this guy is tall (6'2") but fairly slender. I'd guess he weighs maybe 180. Anyway, I paid special attention to the TL's seat as a result, and I can't for the life of me figure out how the seat could hurt his butt. In fact, the side bolsters seem kinda wide to me ... the '04 Maxima I just traded in for the TL seemed more supportive and held me more snugly.
So if it helps you any, I did get a chuckle out of your misfortune.![Wink](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
If it is a big problem, I'd take it to an auto upholstery shop. They can remove the leather cover and change the padding to suit you. And it shouldn't cost much, either, since it's a simple job.

5'10", 180#, no problems. Everyone's body type varies a bit, however, so it could be just the OP.

Cobratx: I had the same problem ... brought my '06 TL back to the Service Manager ... showed him that the side bolsters were extremely hard ... he felt them and said they were a little hard ... Just to make sure, we walked over to a TL on the showroom floor ... felt them and said yes, these were definitely out of compliance/out of specs. and ordered me new cushions for the seat and both sides bolsters. Much, much happier now ... work with the Service Manager and don't settle ... call Acura customer relations and they can help if the dealer doesn't want to help you ... it was an easy fix and a no hassle for my dealer ... I think Acura built some TL's with this foam that was just too hard. You'll get it done and you'll be much happier.

Thanks again everyone. JDD, good advice, I've wanted to go and check another acura to see if they were as hard, as mine are very hard. I'll definately do that.
Of note I've driven with a towel and that has lifted my butt so the sides don't poke in so much. It's definately helped but who wants to use a towel all the time in their new car?
Great Forum Guys!

I have two TL's; an '04 manual (mine) and an '05 automatic (wife's). I find the seats in my '04 to be more comfortable and fitting to me on long trips than those in my wife's '05. However, this year her's was better on a 1300 mile trip we made in May. I suspect the reason is that the car was 14 months old at that time and the seats had been broken in a bit.
BTW, I'm 5' 10 1/2" and 194 pounds with a 36" waist and a reasonably nice build for someone my age. No beer belly and no "butt".

Go to Ikea and pick up a pair of sheepskins. They sell two kinds. One is patched together from fragments then cotton lined the other is a whole skin unlined. The lined ones slip and slide but the unlined skins stay reasonably well planted when tucked into the seat crack. The skins are not too big so they just drape over the seat cushion without covering the side bolsters completely. They will lift you out of the side bolsters slightly so there will be less pressure on your sides. Look for the shortest sheared skins since they maintain their shape longer without looking matted and ratty. Very comfortable summer and winter and the seat heaters work just fine with them.
