Must have DVD-A

I just got the Linkin Park Reanimation DVD-A today and it's the best I heard so far.
You have to get it.

Linkin Park!? "Must have!?!?"

Well music is subjective but if you have not already I strongly recommend that you buy The Flaming Lips "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots".

It is an amazing CD but it is very good as a DVD-A.

Too bad the TL does not play SACD's.

I can't seem to find the "The Flaming Lips" anywhere.

Are there any good classical DVD-A?

Thumbs up

Try Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" in DVD-A. It is awesome. Kinda Pink Floydish.

Yes! I've been a Mike Oldfield fan for years. I hope they release more of his work on DVD-A. His type of music is well suited for this format.

Look in the CD section, but make sure you get the CD/DVD pack.

Yes, too bad. DVDA has a sampling rate of 192Khz - yet SACD has a MUCH higher rate of 2.8Mhz.

However, most, and I do mean 99.9999% of original master tapes are far inferior to SACD quality. You must record in DSD or better to cut a worthy SACD.

I just purchased the recent release of Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and this disc is awe-inspiring. If you are a fan of Elton, trust me - you'll be glad you bought this one. Funeral for a Friend is off-the-scale awesome, and is worth the price of admission alone.

Agreed, but it's an SACD, not a DVD-A, so you're only getting stereo in the TL.

Yup. Just picked it up yesterday at Bestbuy for $27.99 (2 disc set) alone with Alicia Keys' Songs in A Minor. Love them both on my home theater setup and can't wait to try them in the TL in about 10 days. Yeh!

I've got 3 discs - 2 are great

Trapeze - Tom Cochrane & Red Rider - A greatest hits collection which is excellent. The opening instrumentals on the tune White Hot are impressive in 5.1

Gaucho - Steely Dan - Absolutely the best sound quality in the car, especially the tune Hey Nineteen. The vocal ranges are awesome and since it is a DTS encoded disc it makes full use of the 5.1 surround sound system.

Brand New Day - Sting - I just got this one and haven't listened to it all yet. So far the instrumental arrangement on DTS is excellent.

I'm finding that not many retail outlets in my city carry DVD-Audio formats. I'll have to check out some online stores like hmv.ca or amazon.com to see if they have more titles available.

Does anyone know if Columbia House offers DVD-Audio formats?

Just got this DVD-A yesterday as well. It sounds great, but I can't play the bonus tracks in the TL...anyone else having this problem?

Gotta concur with this one, too. I love Orange Crush when the helicopter swirls around.

I just got Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and have the same problem with the bonus tracks. It starts to go to track 18 (first bonus track) then jumps to the next disc. I don't have a DVD-A in my house, anyone try it in a different player?

FYI, for those of you in the Los Angeles area. I went to Amoeba records in Hollywood (they have locations in San Francisco and Berkley), and they had a DVD-A clearance section. I got Linkin Park Reanimation for $4.95 there and picked up a few other titles as well.

Anybody know if there's any Pink Floyd out in dvd-a. Now their music is definitely suited for the 5.1.

There are a few I'd like to buy... but my husband's car and house stereo are CD. I hate to buy duplicates of albums. Because I'm assuming you can't play a DVD audio in a cd player. Right?

That's right. But you can play them in a DVD player. It's nice if you have a home theater setup with surround sound.

I just got the Sammy Hagar and the Wabos Live DVD-a. It is not bad, but it is not one of the better 5.1 mixed albums. I just like Sammy.

I know what you mean, dseag2. It's a hair-raising tune in DVD-A in the TL.
