Moleskin for tinted glass

Hey everyone, I just got my 04 tl tinted and noticed scratches from putting the windows down. I noticed someone writing about instaling moleskin stripping on all 4 windows to prevent scratching, did anyone do this yet or does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent the scratches? Thanks for the help!!

come on now, just because 1 person has it for free where another person sells it for $25 is nothing to harp on the guy for. flnsx is a good guy and very helpful on the boards, as is cvajs. Give him a break dude

Ah Yeah, Bought the mole skin.....Didn't work. Bought 2 mole skin kits and did both of the upper and lower rubber strips, have retinted the car twice. Now I have $400.00 window tint. I would just recomend to do it on both strips BEFORE you tint the car for the first time. Let my expense provide better tint for all.

I just got my windows tinted with 28% Ultimate Series from Formula One. The owner of the shop ensured me they would not scratch under normal wear and tear (accicents excluded). He also said I could go with the Pinnacle Series for $50 more. Both of these tints should not scratch. He has done 27 '04-'05 TL's and not one back yet. They tint job cost me $225, but well worth it. He uses a computer to plot cut the film and therefor no knife blade anywhere near my car. The $100 tint job, which is what good tint cost in 1995, will scratch due to low quality film. Hope this helps.

Do some research; prevent some headaches

If you guys want to keep repeating the mistakes of other TL owners, go right ahead and ignore the advice of those who have gone before you.

You are repeating word for word what TL owners said months ago: "My tinter said moleskin is B.S." "He has done hundreds of TLs with no probems." etc., etc.

Why don't you take a few minutes to search the actual experience of the other members and save yourself a lot of time and money?

The tinters lie. Or, they are ignorant of the fact that the TL window seals are a problem on tint because they are TOO GOOD at what they are supposed to do. Mercedes has a similar problem.

If you have Navi or care about AM and cell phone reception, you should be getting non-metallic tint anyway. See page 3 of your Navi owners manual: DO NOT use metallic tint as it will interefere with the GPS antenna which is below the package shelf.

Many members here have gotten tint without moleskin and within weeks (some within days) have come back and said they had scratches.

Most quality tint has a lifetime guarantee against bubbling and fading. The guarantee does NOT cover scratches. Read it.

But if you want to stubornly go ahead and try it with metallic tint and no moleskin... it's a free country. We're just trying to spare you the headaches.
