mod potential?
hey all, new to this section of the forum as i previously owned an 03 tl, long story short, it got hit and is in no salvageable condition.
im planning on getting either and 06 or 07 tl or an 07 tl-type-s as a replacement. dealership is wanting $27k for a 30k milage type-s and around $21.5k for a 30k milage regular tl.
now my question is, is it worth getting the type s? sure its faster and nicer in just about every way but is it worth the extra 6grand??
i plan on modifying which ever of the two i get so which would you say has more mods available? or are they the same?
i want to get around 300hp out of either car so could i get that with the base tl by putting the extra 6k into it rather than getting the type-s?
how different is the drive between the type-s and the regular?
thanks!

If you can afford a Type S, go for it! Both have a lot of mod opportunities available. There's more bells & whistles with the Type S. The Type S has 286 horsepower standard. The drive is stiffer in the Type S. You won't regret it if you can afford it!

Same mod potential for all practical purposes. Check these threads for available bolt ons and effect:

IMHO, TL-S is worth about $2000 - $3000 more when ALL ELSE IS EQUAL. IIRC, that was the premium on sticker price from a base with Navi to the TL-S.
And, yes, you definetly want the Type-S if you find a fair deal.

I think the base TL has the potential to out run a type-s. I heard that the supercharger only fits into the base TL? if this is true, the 40-60 hp + 258 hp could out run the type-s standerd. I think the comptech supercharger cost about 4k. so if i were you, get the TL base, and install the supercharger, and the quad tips cost around $1500 and then you basically have a better TL IMO. This is what I am planning to do with my TL.

trying to get the type-s but financially the base tl makes more sense lol especially since this hasnt really been a planned purchase since the only reason im getting one is because i lost my old tl in an accident.
how is the drive of the base tl? is it fast and sporty or fast and smooth like butter?
my parents have a new 2010 tl and i love the power of it, but its just too smooth for me lol

And if I strapped wings on my back and stuck a rocket up my ass, I could beat your base TL in the quarter mile.
Apple-to-apples, the TL-S has a clear edge. What you'd pay in mods to "get even", you pay in a premium for the TL-S as part of the price.
If the base is MT and the TL-S is AT (and all else equal) it's between even and a slight edge to the base MT.
The TL-S is only a "gas guzzler" because it's so fun to put the pedal on the floor. For normal people, the gas mileage is fine. Highway mileage is great.

damn i hate how the tl-s is just better in every way, shape, and form. was hoping to find SOMETHING wrong with it so i could justify buying the base one LOL.
really now stretching to get the type-s, although $26k is a lot for me. wish this decision would be easier.
anyone know how dealerships price up these cars?? some have less milage and cost more than others, all with similar carfax reports, meaning no damages or anything like that. is it because of color?! i found a 38k milage type-s in blue for $25,500, and a 42k milage type-s in blue for $27,000. same dealership. both cars are "acura certified used cars"
my mind is blown away

The base 6 speed is a much better buy from a performance standpoint. The extra 5-6k you spend on a type-s could buy you a used supercharger and the other goodies to take the type-s anyday. 380-400 crank HP vs 286 crank hp. It makes sence if you are looking to mod the car to buy the base and use the extra $$$ to mod away.
If you really want to mod the hell out of it get a base TL with nav and 6 speed. All the money you saved from not buying a Type-S can go into mods. I have to tell you though the Type S is very nicely done.
