This was briefly discussed before and the cost and modifications required to make it fit, were deemed too much work. I'd like to change mine, especially after I got an '08 as a loaner. The 3 spoke wheel is so much more sportier looking. Let us know if you decide to attempt it!

its tough and costly, honestly it's not worth it. Buy yourself an aftermarket wheel and hub and make it simple.

Dude, do NOT take a hacksaw to your steering wheel. 3 spokes is sportier, but not when one spoke is sawed off!!

i've been wanting to try this. It shouldnt be an issue as long as you can a) find a crashed 07/08 without deployed airbag for cheap parts b) the airbags are compatible ....

airbags are compatible, the problem is the extra buttons on the 07+ wheel and also the airbag since it's expensive.

Because the MID buttons were moved to the wheel instead of the dash, you would also need a whole new instrument cluster. Even then, the harnesses are probably all totally different. The airbag computer might be different as well due to the different shape/size bags.

Not true a) have redundant buttons or b) have a set of "dead" buttons" c) it was already said the air bag is the same and the connector is the same d) if you are doing something custom, you'd expect it not to be plug and play aka you will need to hack the harness.

Hacking stuff up doesn't bother me. I put an s2000 cluster in my civic. It's like wiring a stereo. You can make your own custom harness. It just depends on your level of comfort with custom wiring.

My only issue at this point is cost. Is the type S steering wheel as thick as the aspec?

Cool

Yes but........
If your going to do this. Why not get the BIG BOY! The 2009TL-AWD Fat wheel is just the right thickness. Have you driven it? I would like to get one of those in CF!! Now that would be great!

Type S is on the left, 2004-6 TL is on the right.

The airbags are certainly not the same...not even remotely close. You are aware that the whole hub of both wheels is one, un-openable, unserviceable SRS unit, right?

The airbag computers are also different:
77960-SEP-A02 SRS UNIT 1 2004 TL 281.10

77960-SEP-A21 SRS UNIT (TRW) 1 2008 TL 256.92

As for the "dead" MID buttons, anything is possible if you want to ghetto-rig it. Like those hot xenons fitted to every ricey Civic around. I know I certainly wouldn't be able to live with it.
