Talking mines in

Well it looks like everyone announces when their car finally comes in. Mine is at the rail yard in Tampa and I cant wait till next week to pick it up. White diamond pearl with camel and navi. Gonna see how it looks without the ground effects but likely go with spoilers all around except the trunk. Got my 'Hell Freezes Over' DVD A and ready to go! I CANT FRIGGIN WAIT!

That's either a (1) Hell Freezes Over DTS Music Disk, which is a CD, or it's (2) a Hell Freezes Over DVD Video, which will not play in the Acura player.

As far as I know a true DVD-A of HFO is not yet available.

Well it says "5.1 music disc. Remixed into 5.1 channel surround directly from the original masters. For dts capable 5.1 sound systems". How do YOU interpret that? Sounds like a DVD audio to me! If not ....oh well. Been screwed before. Wont be the last time either. IF it aint a dvd-a shame on me. IF it is shame on you. It dont kill babies so it cant be too big a deal to either one of us. Ya know? Live long and prosper.

That's a DTS music disc on CD. It's not a DVD-A, but at least it will play in the TL's stereo, and it should sound pretty nice.

I think it's a bit slimy of DTS to be selling compressed CDs packaged the same as DVD-Audios myself; seems like intentional deception to allow them to charge prices in the DVD-A range without providing DVD-A quality.

I've compared the DTS and DVD-A versions of Foreigner 4 in the TL, and the DVD-A sounds better hands down.

Mike,
You got that right. I am no genius where all this is concerned but sounded like the real thing to me. We need some consumer protection here.

http://www.dtsentertainment.com/ This is a quick summary of DTS 5.1 music discs vs dvd audio which are either mlp 5.1 music tracks or dts 5.1 music tracks. Despite reading the sticky primer twice and thinking I understood it......oh well like I said: been screwed before and will be again. I agree with Mike tho seems like purposeful misleading on the part of the dts boys. Most people dont even know dvd audio exists. Guess a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing indeed. jim

I'm pretty sure DTS 5.1 cds were out before the DVD-A 5.1 discs. The DTS cd will still have 5 channels of discrete music plus the one (.1) for the bass frequency. The music is just compressed more to fit on to a CD. A DVD-A is much less compressed, therefore needing the larger storage of a DVD disc.

The DTS disc will still sound better than a 2-channel CD, but won't sound as prestine and clear as the less compressed music on a DVD-A

I think those are all available on DVD Audio. Check the insert and the booklet; if the disk is a DVD Audio, the DVD Audio logo will be on them somewhere.

The DTS Music Discs (CDs) do not have the DVD Audio logo on the printed materials.

I have Holst - The Planets on a Naxos disc. It has both the Digital DTS logo and DVD Audio symbols everywhere including the disc. I guess they aren't consistent. Any of my discs including the Silverline ones (which someone trashed) sound better than regular cd imo.

I've got the Corrs "In Blue" disc and it states "DVD Audio" on the jewel box. The liner note says is was "remixed for DVD Audio". Also says " This disc play three ways: Advanced Resolution Surround, Advanced Resolution Stereo, DVD-Video Compatible Dolby Digital. Advanced Resolution audio and related visual content require DVD-Audio capble players" Besides being real good to look at (not the guy), the Corrs sound pretty good, too. Looks like we will need to look carefully at the labeling and packaging. I bought this one at Fry's Electronics in Phoenix and it cost $13.99. I thought that was reasonable for a DVD-A if it truly is one.

Thanks, Os. Nothing off msrp but will negotiate for add ons when I pick it up. Crown Acura in Clearwater. Salesman was sky high on TL's.

Gotsand:
If the Corrs isnt true dvd audio I give up. Starting to look like a game being played on consumers. I thought I understood all this stuff....guess I'm just TOOPID...jim

Congrats! Be sure to post pics. Particularly if you decide to add the aero pieces. I am considering getting a White Diamond Pearl myself. Gonna go with the Quartz interior though.

Survery man...got it at Crown in Clearwater. I love the silver too.

Treblig.....kind of wishing I had gone quartz because I think the wood trim is a little old fashioned luxury look and the black accents (carbonite?) in the quartz and ebony are stunning and so well done BUT cant have it both ways.....Next time. Jim

Gotsand, that's a legit dvd-a; anytime you see on the packaging that it will play in "advanced resolution" it's a good indicator, but as Mike pointed out if it's a real dvd-audio it WILL have the dvd-a logo on it somewhere (i.e. the familiar DVD logo with "audio" in the circle below). A good site to check out for a list of available titles is www.cduniverse.com.

Hickdoc, congrats on the arrival of your new toy, the Steely Dan & Donald Fagen dvd-a's are gonna sound awesome!!

They are putting on the underbody ground effects tomorrow and I drive it home tomorrow pm. Been thinking the interior was camel but its only available in parchment. It'll have to do. Dealership (Crown Acura in Clearwater) has been great to do business with so far at least. No "deals" but not many are being offered. Considering I could have gotten an '03 M45 for 6K off the msrp 3 days before I ordered my TL but still bought it for sticker price I guess they are right. They know there is a market out there at this point willing to pay full price for what they want.....WONT WE???? Time will tell. Fun to see what they are selling for next fall. Later guys

I talked to a salesman from Crown named Norm at the auto show in Tampa this past week. Did you deal with him? He seemed like a nice guy but as you said they are not dealing down from MSRP at the moment. Let us know what kind of freebees you get. While currently dealing with Regal in Lakeland, Crown and Ferman will get a chance to bid on my business in June!
