Might be saying goodbye to the CL for...

So I'm going Thursday to the local BMW delearship to look at a 2004 TL with 100,000 miles selling for $10,000 with a 12 month 12 thousand mile warranty. What do you guys think, is there anything I should know about the TL before buying? Love my CL but she's been a bit of a problem child, since the purchase in Dec of 10 I have spent nearly 4 thousand in repairs and replacing stuff that was broke or damaged.

Why would you spend $10K on a car with 100K miles? Service is coming up. Pretty much all maintenance stuff is the same as the cl.
It's a limited powertrain warranty? Better read the fine print on what's covered & what's not.

major 105K service. make sure the maintenance on the car has been done religiously (esp the transmission fluid). it will have rattles (they all do unless you fix them or silence them yourself). what does the carfax look like? not that it is the end all of the car's history. depending where the car has lived, there maybe cracked dash issues.

plenty of new 3GTL owners have run into a few issues with their new babies. it all depends on how the PO took care of the car.

just look at the typical stuff, when buying a used car. take it to the acura dealer for a pre-purchase inspection...i don't have an AT. i have had mine since new and have had no major issues. i have fairly low miles on mine. there are plenty of high mileage TLs still running strong over on the 3G side (over 100-150kmi)...you won't know until you look at the car and do all the typical stuff (fluids, make sure all the switches and lights work, the stereo and CD player work, the nav works...etc).

They used the same brake set up as the CL so I'm sure warped rotors maybe an issue. Also the 105k service is almost due so if it wsan't done yet, be prepared to shell out 600-1k for that. Also I heard that some of the earlier 2004 auto transmissions had the same problems we do. Just something to keep in mind.

If your going to buy a TL don't buy an 2004 it was the first year of the 3G and it had many issues save yourself time and aggravation and get a little newer TL like 06. I've seen them (in my area at least) with similar miles for a little more than what you would pay for the 2004 your referring to. Good luck whatever you decide.

That prIce is too high. If you can't afford a lower milage car then you should stick with your current one.

Got a 1 owner 06 TL A-Spec

So the vehicle I was gonna look at got sold, and I ended up trading the CL for a 2006 Diamond Pearl White A-Spec w/ ebony interior. 1 owner always serviced at the local Acura delear with 120,000 miles. Don't get me wrong I loved my CL but if any of you remember my posts when I got the car back in Dec of 10, I've been through hell and back with it I spent nearly $4,000 getting things fixed and replaced on it and frankly I still had a ways to go, it was my first true car purchase and after having a 1st gen Cl I always wanted a 2nd gen and simply seen a good deal and bought it. But again it will be missed but this TL is in showroom condition, as I was signing papers the originally owner came in to drop off the 2nd set of keys I was very pleased to see it was an older gentlemen and his wife that owned it prior to me, simply meaning "it hasn't had the dog shit ran out of it like my CL Type S did"! Pics coming soon, thanks guys for all your input, it was most appreciated in my search!!

Don't be too scared of the high miles. The engine will last forever and highway miles are easy on drivetrain parts. It's time to do the 105k service though, it that hasn't already been done yet.
