Messed around with Lexus 400; WRX
Last nite a buddy with a Lexus 400 was messing with me (6MT TL) for a couple of miles. I have to ask him what year it is. Basically if I really gave it my all I walked him but if I just floored it say in 4th we were even until I got into the higher rpms.
I also messed with a WRX on the way home, but traffic was pretty heavy. I'd say that I could have beat him but we were mostly even.

Yeah I dont really think you are going to take a WRX from a stop. i know that when I drive my buddies EVO. Those things will take off in First If you launch it. On the Highway at least you have a fighting chance.
I'll ask about the Lexus.
I did one hit from a light with the WRX and he of course got out on me but I was catching him. I've seen stock WRX's go 14.4-14.7 at the track so it makes sense. My friend had a modded WRX that was going 12.6.

I have a 1999 Lexus GS400 and there is no way you kept up with a GS400 for long....those things are V8's dude. I can tell you from experience....If I was gonna go to the races....I think I would rather have the GS400 L-Tuned car than the Acura TL A-spec (and I have em both). The GS400 with the L-tuned accessories launches off the line and produces good power into the...oh...lets say 120mph+ range and keeps making after.....just past its peak band at that point. Ok...I compare that to my TL.....which launches off the line good.....but #1-truely seeks high RPM for good power yield (GS400 makes it from the get go) and starts to "bend over a bit" at around 90 and truely does not make the horsepower that the Lexus V8 does (from the seat of the pants anyway...not sure what the stats say). Great suspension on both. Also...the rear wheel drive may help a bit on the Lexus too.

How many WRX drivers do you know that can launch their cars perfect every time? A lot of times, they bog.

If I had an WRX against your TL, I would beat you

If this, if that... perhaps you give yourself a little too much credit.
I'm not sure the model of the Lexus, but if I grabbed 3rd from a roll, I walked away... I have friends with V8 Lexus cars that run in the 14's so I know they are not slow...
The WRX might have been automatic too and I'm sure that would make it like a 14.8 car or something.
I can tell the TL is a low 14 second car stock and maybe a 101mph trap speed car if you beat on it.

in the mid range the TL can keep up or even jump ahead a little bit, but low end torque, solid mid-range and great V8 power up top, mkaes the GS400 much faster than a TL. From 40-75mph I bet you could beat a GS400.
GS400=fastest lexus ever made! Will beat any stock TL 0-100. V8 vs. V6, now if Acura offered a V8 we wouldn't be having this discussion because a 4.0 V8 Acura would destroy a 4.0 V8 Lexus hands down. Comfort that goes to Lexus as they are the best in the biz.

not trapping 101 but practically hitting 14 flat.. that's with only an intake and on 18inch rims..

The new IS350 will lay a hurtin' on the GS4XX.

And it's even more poignant to not that Toyota (#UZ-FE series) and Nissan (VK-series) have been developing and evolving their production V8s for years.
Even V6 vs V6, the TL & RL dont even come near to 'destroying' their Infiniti/Lexus counterparts. So I'm not so sure why you'd think a V8 would fair any better for Acura.
well if anyone cares.. the new lexus GS450h is a V6, with a hybrid electric engine producing "well over 300 horsepower" was the quote I heard from the test drive on SpeedChannel.
Kind of stuck out... a GS450 being a V6... but it's true... a 3.5L V6 and an electric engine as well..
The fast searches I just did failed to come up with a link to a page with an actual HP rating, but I heard it myself directly off the TV during a test drive of the car. The host of the show didn't say the exact numbers, just "well over 300hp".
That might be a way acura could stay away from a V8 and still get the power of the V8.. an upgraded TL engine in combo with an electric engine.. hmmmm

I believe it was an LS400. Not a GS. It's a 4 door. It's quick but slower. My other buddie's 1999 or 2000 400 runs like 15.0 the converter/trans setup is very conservative.

No..... The IS460 will be a 4.6L V8 crammed into the "baby Lexus" ... read the article you quoted.... it's like 30 words long and it says the IS460 will be a V8

There is a GS400 ( or 4something ) that will be the hybrid 3.5L V6, but they aren't calling it a V8 obviously.... it is a hybrid 3.5L V6
