Mercury Insurance group "mechanical breakdown" policy?
I have a 2004 acura tl. Our cars are prone to transmission problems. I purchased a "Mechanical breakdown policy" through a company called "Mercury insurance group". Does anyone have any input on this company? Good or bad?
Thanks
Thanks

i had a policy through mercury casualty co (not sure if it's the same company) a long time ago. only had one claim with them. they seemed to ok. didn't have any issues trying to get the car fixed.
as far as the mechanical breakdown aspect...i had that on my geico plan for my TL but once the car hit 7 yrs old...no more coverage. it was fairly reasonable in price over that time frame. used it once to replace my axles. pretty much broke even with the deductible that i paid. dealer did all the footwork to get it covered, so i had no issues.
kind of surprised they would even offer MBI on an 04. geico only offers this for cars bought brand new for 7 yrs or 100k. curious how much they are charging.

All of those aftermarket warranty companies are bullshit. The ONLY way you will ever come out ahead with one is if you are the tech, or are good friends with the tech who is working on your car at the shop- preferably a dealership. I bought one for my old TL and when my transmission went, like I could tell it was going to... I took it to a shop and told them what was going on, how it was a common problem, how it only started slipping after it was hot, all that jazz- they said no worries they would get it covered when the insurance company sent out an inspector. I got a call back a week later saying the inspector showed up, smelled like he was drunk, rode in the car for 5 minutes and said it was perfectly fine. I was in a 3 month battle with those dicks trying to get it covered and finally gave up and cancelled the policy, out like $500 for nothing. On the other hand when I was a GM tech and I had a silverado SS, I got every single thing I wanted covered with my aftermarket warranty- about $9000 in parts over 2 yrs... So it just depends on who you know I guess, and how well they can get it covered.
