Me vs. '91 BMW 318

So I was driving home tonight and see some HIDs in my rear. It catches up and I see a kid around my age in the drivers seat look over as I do the same. We knew what was gonna happen. We went from a high 3rd gear roll twice. Both times he got the slight jump (I always hesitate on the 3rd honk as to not get an unfair advantage, I need to stop!). So, we are pretty even and I start pulling at the top of 3rd. I hit 4th and start pulling a little harder. Shut it down around the top of 4th both times. I was pulling, but not as hard as I thought. I thought, 318 wtf? So I roll down the window and we say good runs, he asked if I was spraying I said no, the V6 6MT (alot of people don't know or care to know about the 6MT Accord). I ask him what he had and he says "swap." I was like oh word, so we pulled over and chatted for a bit.

He had the 328 swap from a '98 I believe he said. His dad helped with it which is pretty cool, and he had only an intake as far as I can see, Idk about exhaust. He was a cool dude and around my area so I'm sure we'll meet again. I ended up about 2 cars ahead both times. Good runs

I still thought I'd pull harder. Car weighs about 400 lbs less but those 328s only had 190hp/206 ft-lbs...

Nice kill Sonnick! I had the same reaction when I raced my friends 325i 5MT, I beat him but not by that much he too had an intake. I swear those engines pull hard, even with 190HP.

Yea I was really surprised. At first I was like WTF!? A 318!? Lol. But when he said he swapped the 328 motor in there, I was like okay, okay.

He asked if I was spraying because I pulled top end. I feel if he didn't get the jump tho, I would've started pulling immediately each time and put another car on him. I hope I see him around tho he was a cool dude, maybe some more runs Especially if he gets more mods, those motors pull hard!

Should be an awesome race once he gets a few more mods He should be at like 2500 pounds right??

Speaking of top end, I got my exhaust and j-pipe installed a few days ago. Pretty good gains so far, can't wait on those pre-cats The local track is opening this Saturday and I'm hoping I can make it out there for a few runs. You think my mods are enough to pick up maybe 1-2mph in the 1/4?

Yessir. I'd say for certain. You should be around the 102 mark I'd say. I trapped 100.82 with just I/Jpipe. So with the addition of your exhaust I'd say, yup! Only thing that may hold you back is your wheels if they're heavy...which I've never seen pics!!!

Sweet! and luckily I'm still on stock wheels, so I'm looking forward to a 102mph trap speed The HRE's are going on in a few weeks. Here is a small preview Sonnick

It's been my general experience that BMW historically underrates horsepower. IIRC (and just for perspective), the E30 era M3 (with its 190hp NA 2.3L I4) was every bit as quick and fast as the Foxbody 4.9L (aka "5.0") Mustangs of the same era.
