Post May Trade My 2004 Mt/tl This Weekend.

I am very close to trading my 2004 MT/TL for a Mazda Speed6 Grand Touring.

I trade every two years and would like more speed and more torque.

I am very impressed with the quality, safety, and features or the Japanese’s built Speed6.

I also looked at the Subaru Legacy GT Limited but it lacks the overall features and value of the Speed6.

I am being quoted 24,855 (6500.00 of MSRP) for the car.

I love my TL look and interior, but dislike the lack of torque.

I have to hammer the car all the time to get the performance out of it.

After owning several Nissan/Infiniti VQ powered cars and my 5.0 Mustang I miss the torque.

The TL-S will solve the lack of torque problem but at a $38,000 - $40,000 price (15,000 more than the Speed6).

Any input would be appreciated

Forget the Mazda believe me in the long run you'll be pissed off like all the RX-8 owners. If you need to trade get the Legacy Gt if these are your choices and with a couple of mods you will have a monster. Look for threads made by Matt G and you will see what he has done to his Legacy Gt and what his dynos are. You can also be like Nitro and upgrade to an EVO

Top speed : 150 mph
0-60 mph : 6.2 sec.
0-¼ mile : 14.7 sec @ 96.5 mph(estimated)

that is not much faster than the TL.

Personally, i think that move is a downgrade and the mazda can't compare to the all around package of the TL.

Go for the Legacy GT, turbo all wheel drive, or wait for the STi version

Actually, if those are the numbers for the Mazda, it's incrementally SLOWER than the 3G manual TL (152 mph top end, 0-60 in 5.8-5.9 and quarter in 14.4 or so). FYI, the Mazda 3 just had the same turbo 4 engine dropped into its Mazdaspeed version, but I don't know if its interior and content will float your boat.

You're better off looking at the G35, which will be at a higher price than the Mazda, but is definitely faster and does have all gadgets available.

I've driven the mazdaspeed 6... I was really disappointed...

my impressions...

pro
good torque - however, watch out for that turbo lag.
better telescoping steering wheel - it extends further than the TL.
build quality - not bad, not as good as the TL, but the one I drove did not rattle.
navi - very quick boot up.

con
weight - car felt sluggish, especially before the turbo kicks in.
engine - sounded really rough... especially compares with the TL
shifter - really notchy, no joy in shifting.
navi - cannot change/input while moving. also the location of the screen feels like an afterthought.
brake - inferior to TL 6mt's.

I just felt the TL, with many of it's shortcomings, really got most of the important stuff right. I love the how the engine winds, how the shifter engages, and the burst of speed that comes without any drama/noise.

To me, the TL is one of the best "q-ship" on the market.

All confirmed in Nov. 2006 Car & Driver Article on the above mentioned MazdaSpeed 3. How about a G35C?

If you intend to buy a Subaru test the A/C in a hot day. I just got rid of a 2006 Outback LL Bean 3.0, loaded. I tinted all the windows right after I bought it in December. The A/C didn't cool the car on days over 95*. The compressor cycled on and off every 6 seconds. The car was in the shop 22 days in July. They replaced the compressor and the expansion valve. Even the factory rep couldn't get it to cool right. I found out that the A/C system is under sized for the Outback wagon, only 13 oz of refrigerent in the system. The car also got hot on me on a 109* day, almost overheated. Subaru finally bought the car back from me in August. I went out and bought an 06 TL for less then I paid for the Subaru.

I don't know what part of Florida you live in, but I've been in Orlando in July and it gets very hot and humid there. I live in California and we don't get the humidity you get. Test drive the Subaru only on a hot day.

Thanks for all your input.

I am going to wait a few months for the TL Type S.

Test drove the Speed6 again today and it is fast (faster than my TL).
Most mags have it 5.4-5.6 0-60 mph and 14.0 quarter mile.
The road and track test times were in CA on 91 octane gas (the speed6 must have 93 octane to perform).

I just could not live without some of the luxury feature the TL has over the Speed6.

And then there is always the new '07 G35 sedan. Car and Driver managed a 0-60 run in 5.2 seconds and a 13.9 quarter at 103 MPH. Those are VERY impressive numbers for a small, normally aspired engine pulling around a nearly 3600 pound car. Very impressive, indeed.

Just picked up a G35 with my own $$$ (so don't say i'm bias). To me, other than the FWD part, TL is a much better car. it still gives me the "ah....." factor even after 2 yrs.

so many idiotic small designs drive me crazy in G35. rides very nice and that's about it. you really have to do some longer term test drives in cars you might want to buy. unless you are just trying to pick up something super cheap at the model/yr end time (i did ;-)). i think you might be disappointed by the turbo lag on speed6 but that's just me. good luck.

The legacy gt is a really nice package for the price I think. Pretty nice interior, good power, good handling, awd. Its also easily moddable to make TONS of power if that's your thing. (The engine block is the same as in the STi, just need a turbo upgrade)

I didnt want the fuel sucking of awd though. Plus the TL is a little more "bling"

the mazdaspeed6 is one of the biggest bang for the buck out there, for a base (i forgot the name, no-navi/sunroof/leather) you can go around 23-24k out the door.

I think you made a wise decision to wait a minute to look at the TL-S. While
some of the individual features of the TL can be beat, the total package remaines very impressive.

I second that, to go from TL to a Mazda is a huge downgrade. Who would pick a Mazda over and Acura? Just my personal opinion and my

Just a word of "caution" from a "former" Mazda owner: Be absolutely positive that the new Mazda6 (mazdaspeed) has NOTHING to do with FORD!!

I have read the reviews on the Mazdaspeed 6 and they were relatively good however, i think the interior is really lacking in "refinement" for a car that cost around 30K. You are must better off with the TL.

When I was looking for a new car, I did not even consider the Mazda6. I believe it is made in Japan 100%, but not sure?

The bottom line is, you have to go with what YOU are happy with. If you absolutely need to trade in the TL, I would give the new Subaru Legacy GT a try. Or, just wait for the TL "redesign" in 2008-09?

Good luck!

Yes, the Subaru Legacy GT is a nice car! I was actually looking at the Subie before I looked at Acura. I had my eye on the Subie for a long time however, I thought the interior was a bit "cramped". The Subie is smaller than the TL, so that is something to consider. Performance-wise and handling, the Subie GT is great!

I just thought the TL was a bit more "sophisticated" without losing some sportiness, and it was a lot of value for the money!

Just my
