I had a similar experience in New York where I live. One of the current 5 series beamers pulled up next to me. Signaled for me to roll my window down and began asking me questions about the car. I was so shocked but it made me feel so good.

I rarely see one but yesterday saw two brand new ones in the parking lot of Wegmans in Manalapan.
Anybody from here?

In DC there are TLs everywhere. A TL crossed right in front of me on a 4 lane road causing causing me to break relatively hard.
I guess they were't aware of the cardinal rule:
"Thou shall not cut off fellow TLers."

All kinds...
Here in AA, I generally see two kinds who check out the TL.
The first is the snob who checks out my car but the minute you make eye contact, they look away. But they're back to checkin' it out at the next light.
Second is the one who checks it out and gives the thumbs up or asks me questions in the parking lot. Some who own very nice 3/5 series are surprisingly open-minded and didn't just buy their Bimmer for the status.
In AA, the unofficial TL salute seems to be a quick flash of our Xenon HID's.
