Loud Snap Sound

Hello All,

Last night when the passenger door was opened I heard a loud "crack". I thought at first that it was just the interior door handle snapping back after being let go but it was louder than that. Any ideas? The door seems to be working fine.

Sounds like the check link (holds the door open) may have either just popped under stress or could be cracked and/or broken. Aside from having a bent hinge, that's the only thing that comes to mind.

There's not much to the door mechanism. Not to insult you or anything, but could it have been a seat belt buckle caught in the door when you closed it? sometimes that can make a 'ugly' noise.

this is happening when you open the door or in an opened state?

This happened one time when the passenger door was opened. It has not happened again. I'm at a loss as to what it was.

I've checked the closing and opening resistance of the door and can't really tell if something is amiss with it. It doesn't "swing free" so I guess that's a good thing. I'll do a more thorough comparison with the drivers door on level ground and let you know what I find out.

I has something similiar happen once. I closed the door with the window half way open. What I thought was something breaking was just the window rattling in the "half way open" position. Since I have learned that it happens all the time when the window is half way open and is just a quirk of the car. Hope this helps.

It definately wasn't the window rattling, the window was closed. Plus this was a crack sound, kind of like a thick, narrow piece of plastic being snapped in half.

I'm not going to worry about it anymore. Nothing seems to be out of the oridnary however I'll remain perplexed about it. It wasn't my imagination either. The passenger who opened the door heard it too.

Sure it wasn't the door seal 'sticking' to the door frame? In coldass Canada, moisture freezes to the seal and opening the door can make a cracking noise...

Just realized that it couldve been the side storage compartment 'snapping' open or closed.

In case you don't know what im talking about, its the side compartment at the base of the front doors behind the speaker. those open up. I've had a couple instances where those are not quite collapsed, so when i open or close the door, they will 'snap' open or shut.
