Looking for some help with Carbon Fiber
Hey guys,
Without a doubt, it's been a while since I've done anything to my car. Since last week's car deal went through the drain (BBBOO Acura of Lynnwood SALES), I've decided to do SOMETHING with the car. I was considering a carbon fiber hood. It's around $600-700...expensive, but not crazy. I can't justify purchasing the comptech supercharger, so i considered weight reduction; nothing as raw as inaccurate's project, but something like it. For all you carbon fiber gurus, can you point me in the direction of where to even get one? is VIS the "brand" to go with? What about maintenance? I wonder if it'll look....ricey ? Anyone have any connections or recommendations (companies)? THANKS!!!!!!!

i have a cf hood in my garage, if its on a black car i dont think it is that ricey. but it also depend on what you are going for. i might end up hitting vip style so my cf hood is a no no.
vis hood are alright. with my old car i been through 6 hoods, mainly because of fading issue. this include both vis and seibon. the best way to ignore the clearcoat fade is by getting it professionally recleared. learned it on my last hood and it lasted till the day i sold my prelude.

I thinks BLACKURA_NY had one on his 3G.
OP, send him a PM and ask what kind.
Lembowski has/had one too.

Before purchasing a CF hood you need to ensure that the manufacturer has completed the hood with a true UV protective clearcoat; there's an additive provided that helps deter fading within the hood. VIS is a well-known and established brand, so you can be confident in their products. As far as 'cracking with hood pins' is concerned, no, sorry, I will disagree with you up and down the river. The only reason it would crack is if the installer did not hold the latch angle true to the catch bolt and induced strain via crappy install OR a cheap set of pins was used thereby allowing the hood to bounce all around.
I have installed two sets of aerocatch pins and have yet to hear of a single issue.
The only thing I will recommend, though, is that you indeed put a good set of pins in there. You would not be the first, nor the last, to be blinded on the freeway when the OE latch fails...

my prelude wasnt garaged kept so it saw alot of sun abuse, one of the main reason why gel coat clearcoat fade easier then automotive clear coat. if your car is garage u will have a lesser chance of having it faded but it is a matter of time. the carbon fiber itself was always fine though
