Unhappy Longest wait time for factory order?

Hi All,

I'm waiting on an Anthracite 6MT w/Navi. I had to order from the factory and the dealer said it would be 70-90 days for the car to come in. Today is the 90-day mark - still no TL.

Has anyone had to wait longer than 90 days??

That's pretty long. Did you put a deposit? I waited less than 30 days, but I had a deposit.

I did put a deposit down - $1000 refundable.

I know that there are some other people on this forum who have waited close to 90 days. I'm wondering how often that happens, and if anyone has had to wait longer?

The fact that I don't even have a VIN yet scares me.

You should go to a dealer with a larger inventory. 90 days is ridiculous! there has to be a car in that combo somewhere near you!

What combo do you select? I mean your interior color and HPT option?

DMZ waited for 3 months to get his 6MT/Navi/DGP/Camel?? You're not alone... if your dealer does make an order for you properly.

I would get on the phone and harass them. He should have some info for you - at least the build date and # if not the VIN. Bug him til he gets something for youl

I bugged my dealer and he found one another dealer had on order and did a swap and I got it much sooner.

The exact combo I ordered was Anthracite/Quartz 6MT w/Navi no HPT.

I have been bugging the dealer, who seems to understand my frustration. I'm in Northern VA and the dealer has apparently looked for this combo as far south as Florida and as far north as MA.

I recently saw a some posts on this forum by people receiving their factory-ordered 6MT's w/Navi (including 2 with the exact same color combo), so I thought mine wouldn't be far behind. But, still no word. I think I'm going to go nuts soon. :banghead:

Check out Pohanka...When I went shopping, they knew exactly which dealers were getting what and when. Straight shooters from the start as I knew what I wanted and they knew when it was coming. Don't let 'em screw with you about yadda yadda. Take your business elsewhere.

I have a Blue/6Mt/Navi on order as well and as of last week my dealer said the factory ran low on a part required for the 6MTs but not required for the Autos. They said all 6MTs are backordered. I called Acura CS today and they gave me the run around and said its proprietary information and they couldnt tell me one way or the other.

PS: Either Keyes Acura in Van Nuys, CA or the Acura dealer in Valencia, CA (I cant remember which he was calling from) had a Anth/6MT/Navi this past weekend. A Friend of mine was goofing artound test driving cars and he knows I'm waiting for my TL. He called me from the dealership and said they had one right there if I wanted to change my color choice.

I really wish the webmasters that run Acura's website would pull their head out of their rear and make the inventory search actually useful. Giving you results based on the car you want, not the closest 5 dealerships that might not even have anything close.

Also, CS said they dont have access to any Database that they could search to find the car you want nationwide. I said "So let me get this straight, you dont have access to run a custom search, but the website has a database that has all the information natiuonwide in it?" She said Yup.

Call Flow Acura in Winston-Salem, NC.(336) 723-3524 That combo should be coming in, they tried to sell it to me, but I want ebony interior. They said the car is coming in a week or two. Good Luck.

edit: WStevens, You better call them as soon as you read this, just realized that the whole forum knows where to finds this combo now, and I'm sure you're not the only one looking for it.

Acura gives cars on Allocation.
You can't order a specific car from the factory.

The best the dealer can do is trade allocations with another dealer that has what you want.

You win! That's the longest wait I've heard of. Be sure to look around with other dealers. And don't let the deposit with your current dealer tie you down. Until you drive off the lot with your most wanted TL, look around to other dealers. It might even save you some moola.

put a $500.00 deposit on 2/12/04 for a WDP 6MT, Navi, A-spec still haven't gotten mines yet. I should have my vin number within the next few days. There is a serious backorder on 6MT. I heard there is up to 6 months wait. No one is willing to trade even if they had one on the NorthEast side. 6MT/navi combo will be like the legend coupe 6MT, extremely rare.

There are a couple of possibilities here:

1)You aren't waiting for the factory to build your car. You are waiting for the dealer to have an open allocation slot so they can order your car. At least that's what you were possibly waiting for for a while. (Maybe it's actually on order by now). Each dealer can only order a certain number of cars, probably based on past sales. Dealers don't like to tell customers that they can't even place an order for a month or two - they lose customers thate way.

2) Your dealer is getting and selling cars, including "yours" and is selling them to buyers that are paying a higher price.

3) There really is some shortage of 6MT cars, like someone else said. I'm not sure - I can find them on the lot, but not with Navi. Can't find Automatics w/Navi either though.

I'm at about 90 days right now for a 6MT/Navi/Black/Parchment - should get my car around June 1 which will make it about 105 days.

Yeah that sounds about right to me also. I am getting mines around end of May, early early June. I think Acura made all the 6MT/navi all together, considering you aren't that far away from NYC. But I heard the next shipments of 6MT/navi wouldn't be till about Sept. so good luck to all those who want 6MT/Navi.

I ordered my 6MT/Navi/WDP/Parchment on 3/1. I was on a waiting list at the dealer until they got the allocations. The order was placed to the factory mid-April with a build week of 6/14. Takes about a week to get to the dealer. Obviously, all of the above is based on what the dealer is telling me. I haven't begun sweating it at all yet because I don't really need the car until mid-June. Bottom line: if I get it by 6/25, it's 117 days from when I signed the paperwork to order it and ~75 days from when the dealer says they placed the order.

My dealer could only order mine at the end of the month, so I lost a week however, he said that it would take 8-9 weeks. I did not order the navigation since it was even more rare. I'm am about 2-3 weeks from that 8-9 week marker, sounds like it might take a little longer if the 6MT's are this far back logged.

The dealership in Orlando has one 6MT/Nav/HPT/Desert Mist/Parchment

Status Check, anyone have any luck and actually get their car?

AirlineMuseum.c: You said June 1, Any luck?

I'm approaching 3 months, or just past 3 months, I cant even remember now. Havent spoken to my dealer in weeks.

PS: I ran my 30 dealer search process just a little bit ago, goes from San Diego to San Francisco on the West Coast. The Only 6MT Navi's I could find were ALL (bout 5 of them) in Anthracite/Quartz. So if any of you Kalifornians want that color combo, now is the time.

I "got lucky" in that my dealer had their allocation come up the day I went to test drive. So put down my 1k deposit on Apr 28 for 6mt/nav. I got my VIN on monday, and it's supposed to arrive next week. I'm glad I didn't read this thread before then, I might have gotten paranoid and gone crazy.

There will be pain though if I don't get it next week as promised.

I find it interesting that tey quoted you so long. Did you ask them to do a dealer swap? At my dealership, the longest I have quoted someone is 10 weeks and that is with NAVI.

Maybe I can shed some light on things, since I sell Acuras in NJ. You are right in saying that the dealers must wait for allocation, but they also order the colors they think will sell once a month. If you pick a color that's not in that order, and not in the order they placed last month that's already inbound, then you have to wait about 10 weeks for the car. You see, once the dealer orders their cars each month, they are put on what I can only refer to as a "tentative list", until they moved onto the "official list" for the inbound inventory and they are assigned production dates that are usually a few weeks out. The production takes 4-5 days and the units are shipped from marysville, OH which usually takes about 15 days. Once I know my customers cars are shipping, I let them know, but the cars sometimes sit in a lot a few counties away from my dealership for a few days until they have a"full load" to deliver to us. That's why I quote 20 days shipping, in case they are 3-4 days later than the 15 day ship date. Sometimes they come in earlier though.

I know for a fact that manual TL's are being built at a rate of 15-20 out of every 100 units. This is simply because Acura knows that few people want to drive a manual (well at least not as many as automatic). Add to that fact that NAVI's are being demanded by customers in more than half the TL's purchased, and production is not keeping up with demand which leads to the 8-10 week delay in delivery. its hard enough to get a NAVI but to get a manual with NAVI AND get the color you want is damn near impossible to do without ordering fresh from the factory.

I originally started this thread on my 90-day mark. I orded a 6mt/navi/anthracite/quartz from Pohanka Acura in VA in February. My dealer just told me that the car has been shipped and may be in this weekend.

If I pick it up on Saturday, the wait will have been 125 days. I'm sure it will have been worth it.

Casper42, I have a ABP/Quartz/6sp/Navi/HPT on order also. Ordered from dealer 4/21, dealer placed order w/factory 5/7, still waiting. Hopefully since we live in the same town and want the same color car, they will arrive at the same time. (Wishful thinking)

I am not sure if this is true, because the dealer I went to could not find the car I wanted. I gave a small deposit, he called me to tell me he was ordering it the next day. The next day he called me to tell me that he had ordered it and that the estimated arrival date that the factory gave him was 4 weeks. 4 weeks later to the day, I got a call, my car was in.

Well I'm at 109 days
According to 1blkowl's post he is at 92 days.

Delivery of 1blkowl's car is scheduled for late August which would make it almost exactly 4 months.
I still dont have a firm build or delivery date from my dealer.

Anyone else been waiting for their TL since April?

PS: Captain, your 4 week order seems miraculous, but I noticed you didnt say which options you went for. If you ordered a car without NAV or an Auto with NAV your likely to get your car much sooner than a 6MT with NAV

I ended up waiting 125 days and took deliver in mid June. It was well worth the wait. All the anticipation made getting the car all the more exciting.

I wonder if they will make more 6MT's w/Navi in 2005. A lot of people who have ordered 6MT's w/Navi have had to wait a long time.

wstevens, I was the first at my dealer to order a 6MT/Navi. (and one of the very few to get HPT's) I ordered before the car was out on July 28th, and it was just before Christmas before I got it. Talk about a long wait. I agree, the anticipation made getting it that much more fun.

Wow! 109 and 92 days respectively. It seems like an eternity. Just think, I still have 32 days until they even build the car. If all the members on this forum are right, it will be worth the wait.
