lol at tint shop..."whats moleskin?"
i had very light tints on my 04 a few years ago that have become scratched to hell. i put new tints on yesterday and forgot to ask the shop if they use moleskin. so i called them today and i asked if they use moleskin. the guy had no idea what that was so i rephrased and said felt tape to prevent scratching. his reply was no bc the TL already had felt installed from the factory. i said no it didnt and thats why my original tints were scratched. he said all TLs do that and theres nothing they can do. its a very good shop so im suprised. i guess ill be installing it myself.
i may order from tintprotector or even the website that was mentioned on thats only 4.99. is tintprotector a higher quality product? im worried about the glue melting and getting all over the tint like a few people here have had happen. any suggestions?

Well, you can go two ways. One you can order the tape or felt from either place and install it. I did this myself and it's not hard. Or another member was researching the fitment of the felt liner in the 09 TSX to see if it will work on our TL's. Yes, the tape has glue and it may or may not come off on your windows. But the glue is easily removed with Goo Gone and it's better to have glue than scratches. I've had mine on for a year now and I did get glue at first. Don't notice it so much now, so I guess the excess glue will disapear in time.

I was afraid to ask the front desk lady today if they use moleskin cuz I was sure she'd have no idea. I will ask the tinter when I drop my car off next wednesday. Some people never have problems with scratching....i'll just make sure to keep the factory "felt" clean from time to time with a mf cloth. I don't foresee any problems.

The TL does have felt strips already but they can trap dirt and debris which then causes scratches. Same thing goes for moleskin. It's a waste in my opinion.
Think about it. You have this moleskin that is supposed to protect the film by being a smooth barrier between the film and the side of the door/window, if something like dirt gets stuck in between, it will rub and scratch the film every time you open and close it. Best thing to do is eliminate anything from even touching and rubbing against the tint, including moleskin.

I had some sort of moleskin on another vehicle and it actually did just that - trapped particles to itself and scratched the tint. It's almost like velcro to dirt particles. And once something got stuck to it, the only way to separate was using tweezers and nitpicking every particle - not a fun experience.
