A Little Strip of Accent
A Little Strip of Accent
For those of you, what I have done can be judged positively or negatively, however, I think it goes well with the silver strip in the headlights. See below and let me know your thoughts...

Okay, regarding the horizontal under the window strips. They are STOCK! That's right. What you do is carefully pull the plastic edging off (one phillips on each front door behind the weather seal) and none on the rear doors. Then put a piece of long duct tape on the black strip under the windows and pull outwards and they will slide. Next, when you have the strips off you will notice that the black is actually tape that covers the aluminum/chrome looking strips. With patience and a heat gun (or hair dryer), carefully pull the tape off. Then reassemble. It took me 2 hours to do all four doors total.
Regarding the door handle and front lower part of the car, those are body molding available in a solid half circle with 3M backing for $17.00 at Murray's Auto (Autozone probably has it also). I just cut to length and applied. They are pretty durable and are made solid.
Yes, Weathertech. Awesome product.
Any other questions?

Do you know if the other black trim around the window have chrome under them by chance?
Super nice job again.

Anyway, I don't get the duct tape part. Are you using the duct tape to "wedge" out the strip? Are you saying to attach the duct tape to the strip between it and the window and then pull on the duct tape to get the strip out? I don't suppose you have a picture of this, do you?
I think the lower chrome window trim looks good and I am definitely doing this. I'd also be interested to see if the upper trim above the windows is also chrome underneath.

How did I know it was vinyl? I had a Mazdaspeed Protege and it was Vinyl all around. I took that off and exposed body color. I have been doing car stuff/mods for a long time and the texture gives it away.
Secondly, all the other trim pieces are solid plastic.
Thirdly, Acura buys products from all different vendors, and this is not made by acura, but used accordingly.
Fourthly, when the car door is open, put a piece of duct tape horizontal on the actual trim piece, with some raised off on a slant, and with one hand push out on the trim piece towards the outer side of the door, with the other hand, pull on the duct tape as the adhesive to the trim is sufficient and will really help.
Lastly for now, how to get the corner plastic piece off - be VERY gentle and you can do it on the rear easily. The front is VERY hard, as I broke both. What did I do, spend $100.00 for two tiny pieces of plastic as it is about $50/side to replace the complete plastic, trim piece, and under rubber. So you can say, the project cost me $100.00 because of my first experience. If I had to do it again, patience is the key.

I hope that they haven't changed the supplier or the part since the '04 model. How does the "texture give it away?" On the front corner pieces, did you 'pull' them off with pliers or 'pry' them with a small blade?
Also, what's the procedure for getthing them back on properly? Thanks!

To get the black corners off, by pulling via the duct tape on the trim outwards towards the edge of the door will force the plastic out just a little bit. I used a little screwdriver to help. I also used a pliers. DO NOT DO THIS. You will crack it. Use a screwdriver and edge it out slowly. Patience is the key again.
The parts are 04-06 and hasn't changed.
Procedure to put back on - EASY. Slide the metal strips in and then put the black plastic ends in easily. No biggie.

I dont like it. It looks like it breaks up the harmony with the black surrounds on the door...but thats just my opinion. I would also have went with the OEM visors as they terminate better on the back window....a bit more expensive....but they look more like they go with the car. Again...just my opinion.
I saw a benz yesterday on the parkway w/ the same chrome strip under the windows. It didn't look too bad.
On the TL, i'm not sure how it looks. its one of those things u have to stare at for a while to see if u like it. wonder how it would look on rrp?

It wasn't really my style either, but I was looking for a change, and to stand out and be different and noticeable. Many people, even when I am side to side with another TL driver doesn't realize my car is lowered. BLEH!
johnny--2k: Chrome, not brushed
Tonywp75: I made it - see original post
zena22: Solid plastic
hondatypes: Nope, just did the same thing as my Mazdaspeed Protege, but instead of body color, it is chrome

I will try and post pics when it stops raining here! I have no garage so I depend on good weather to attempt things. Also, I will try to get them in before the weekend as I have never attempted to post pictures on the computer EVER!
Just completed this mod. It looks even better than I thought it was going to. In pulling out the first rear cap, the clip that holds the cap in the door broke off and fell into the door panel. The trim piece was so hard to slide out, I'm not too worried about it moving. I found the front pieces easier to remove because all you have to do it unscrew the screw holding the cap in place and slide. I didn't even use the duct tape. I was able to just slide the trim piece out using my hand.
I know some people are not fond of the look; however, I think it dresses up the TL just a bit and am very happy with it.
Now thinking about my next mod. Probably tint...

Jack,
Yeah, same thing happened to me with the rear. Though the fronts gave me some problems, but you got it working and that is great.
As an update, many weeks have gone by and everything else has held up and definitely has grown on me and tons of positive looks from other motorists.

Yeah, after several weeks I am really pleased with the look. My personal belief is this was the original intent for the design of the car. It looks like it should have been there from the beginning.
