License Plate

I wanna stay legal in terms of having a front plate on my TL, but I also want the acura logo in the center to show. I thought about doing the tow hook mount, but I wasn't impressed. Has anyone had experience with the brackets that mount to the lower grill via drilling or even a non-drill version. I feel a DIY coming on.

No experience with front plates, but all I can recommend is either leave it in the original spot, or none at all. Off center plates just look terrible and attract attention for all the wrong reasons. Everytime I see a car driving opposite direction with an off center plate all I see is the license plate because it's so awkward looking lol. The Acura logo isn't that cool to where I would jeopardize the looks of the entire front end just to see that.

Put the license plate in the center or run with no license plates at all.

Here in Texas having a front mounted license plate is mandatory or else you can get ticketed. That rule passed back in September 2013.

I've been running with no license plate since 2011 and not 1 issue yet.

I agree offset plates look silly.

There are a couple of members here on AZ that have their front plates mounted off center and low.
There is also a front plate mount that folds and disappears under the car. Some are manual and some are automatic/electric.

I just assume the "ricer boy window mount" I have going on now is just going to attract even more attention then the side mount.

I agree with JTS97Z28 and vietxquangstah that having the plate off center doesn't look great.

I live in a 2 plate state and iv never run the front one on my TL(for 5 years now). My car looks mostly stock and Im a pretty conservative driver. Iv never once had a problem with law enforcement. IMO a front plate looks terrible in any other place then the center.

I run no front plate thats the first thing i removed when i bought the car "used"

Ive seen a few tl around my area with the plate to the side and it looks real bad.

The only time i put my plate back on is when im going to the airport to drop or pick someone up. Ive noticed atleast with my experience and areas i drive around cops dont really bother luxury cars with no front plates but target the typical "jdm boy"

I wouldnt mount it anywhere but where the plate goes. Good luck!

I didn't have a front plate on my Legacy or Miata while I had them.

Had the Miata in MD for about 2.5 years, got pulled over once for no plate, let off with a warning.

I had the Legacy in MD for about 1.5 years. Got pulled over once for no plate, let off with a warning. Got pulled over another time for speeding, and got a ticket for no front plate. Got pulled over yet again, this time for a burnt out headlight, cop didn't mention anything about the lack of front plate.

Both cars were stock appearance wise, except for 35% (MD legal) tint on the Legacy, and I'm a clean cut looking mid 20s white guy.

I like having a front plate now, one less thing to worry about being pulled over for.

you already have the logo on the front grill.
THe one on the bumper is barely noticeable in my opinion.

or, you can find a way to zip tie the plate to the lower grills on the bumper.

I'm surprised that's a ticketable offense. Seeing as it's an equipment violation not a moving violation. In WI they only gave me warnings. Then I'd immediately put it on then take it off moments later.

Even here in SC too dark of tint is an equipment violation.

"Mid 20's white guy" is kind of irrelevant.
Not sure why this matters

I drove in NY for 6 years before moving down south. I never had a front plate on my EM1, but when I did it was offset. I always kept in on the bracket. I was stopped a few times for it, and when questioned, I always just said I was taking pictures of the car to sell or w/e I could think of at the time. Then asked the officer if they wanted to put it back on immediately and a couple times I had to. Got lucky in my younger days and never got the ticket. Moved to SC a few years back and have loved never having to worry about it again!

I also don't like the offset plate idea at all. Reminds me of the 80s GM/Ford station wagons that had that arrangement, lol.

Been running without a front plate since 2007. I have NO idea why but it's been just dumb luck; not a SINGLE cop has even mentioned it. I have been pulled over tons of times (Probably 20+ times in that time period.) for other equipment violations. (zero moving violations.) but for some reason they have never cited me for this.

The funny thing is if they ever did, it may be one of the only real legit tickets they might be able to write for me. Usually the rest of the tickets they try to tack on me don't stick because they are bogus/written wrong and they don't know the real law themselves. It's further confirmation to me that when they pull me over it is not for a real particular reason. Then they just want to write something to justify the stop.

But no complaints here, like I said, I'm lucky and happy about it. My plan all along has been to do the motorized plate option. I have seen other AZine member's cars at meets, what an awesome idea. I figure if I ever get a warning or "fix-it" ticket I will look into that.

i live in ny and have my plate mounted on the driver side next to the fog light and have no problems... however i have a friend who has it mounted the same way and got a parking ticket for it once. i park mainly in the driveway at home and work and drive by a police staion and drive by ticket trap zone everyday and no issues with the side mount.

as for posters who say side mounts look bad, I highly disagree. i like it and essentially isnt that what maters? im not a ricer, my car is stock but lowered with the kit and atlp wing tinted to 40% and no bother from cops *knocks on wood*

The flip up/down license plate holder would be best option.

I was never a fan of offcenter license plates

I personally thinks it looks good. I have no ricer but it's a nice option to have if you don't want to mess with your bumper. Although I guess my only scare would be if someone backs into my car or something..

In the end you do what makes you happy.. and i'm happy

I just don't know what it is, when I look at those pics above I just can't stop staring at the license plate because it just looks so out of place.

This just looks so "off" that it actually appears to be photoshopped or something. Whatever one likes I guess. I bought my car in NJ and it didn't even come with the front bracket to mount a plate. I drove it for 2.5 years in NY without getting pulled over and then I got pulled over and got a warning. After that I bought the mount. Honestly, I think a plate in the stock location looks better than no plate at all. The 3G has such a soft looking front end without A spec, that the plate gives it some character. I'm not a brand whore, so I couldn't care less about covering the "Acura" on the bumper.

I've never had a front plate and never received a ticket.

Offset looks just terrible.
