Letter from dealer
Letter from dealer
so who else got a letter from the dealer saying they want to buy your 3G? This is the second time I got an offer for mine......buuuttttttttt I'm keeping my 3G till it falls apart or until something really catches my eye.
Happens when you buy a car that is brand new or low mileage off their lots. 4 years is a good time they'll be calling you back. They'll say it's at it's highest peak in selling price. They rather buy your car than go to the aution to get one for more.
I still get notices from Nissan wanting to buy the Altima I sold years ago

^more of a sales tactic than high demand for 3g's....
like stated, they're just trying to get you in the door.
once you step foot into a dealer, the wolves will attack.
and this letter does work...LOL look at all you guys being naive.

That's why I don't want to do any performance mods to my car. Because if I had Type-S it would've been faster and perfect to the last limit of 3G. But that's performance wise.
I don't like the look of Type-S. Base model 07-08 is always been a trash for me. Taillights, rim.
Type is sometimes okey but still to me the real TL is 04-06. Sits better on the road for some reason. Especially A-Spec model of course. Type-S kind of looks big to me.
Also mirrors on 06 fits to the car much better. Sharp edges and rectangle look. Not circular fat style like Lexus IS.
Just my taste.
If Type-S was faster than a G37 or same. Then I would consider performance more than the look and want Type-S.

The 3G TL's in my local dealer sell really quickly... talked to the salesman that sold me my car six months ago... he told me they put them on the lot and they're gone ASAP. I personally couldn't find a single 3G on the lot.

I get these letters/postcards all the time. The dealership is just trying to generate revenue-they are a "for profit" company.
Hey, every time I go into the dealership, they ask me if I want to trade-up! It's very normal. I laugh every time because the sales manager says he wants my Type S "really bad. They'd have a lot of fun selling my car"

The only time these letters can actually work in your favor is with a lease. My neighbor has a Nissan Rogue in which he was ~ 2 years into a 3 year lease (he always leases his vehicles). They contacted him asking if he would turn the lease in early and they would help him set up a new lease. He originally said he wasn't interested, but, since they were aggressive in sales, he negotiated a very low initial payment and a lease payment $50 less than what he had with the prior Rogue (he got the same model but new and a color he really likes).
I think the profit margin on a used car is apparently higher than with a new one. I could be wrong but this is what it seems to be.
As for me, those letters go right to the recycling bucket.

The used car market is usually tight when new car sales are down. So if the TL isn't selling as well, then there won't be as many used TLs available for trade-in. The dealer wants to sell a new car sale and keep your used TL for a double-whammy.
Yes, the profit margin is often higher on used cars than new. New cars are a bit like a commodity where the pricing is very well known and there is not as much variability in pricing or the cars. A new WDP TL from Dealer #1 is the same as Dealer #2 with same options. That's not the case with used because you have mileage, cleanliness, and color variations to account for since most dealers are not going to have every color for a 3G.
Used cars are great profit centers because the spread between trade-in and retail is $1000+ which is a lot more than what the dealer makes on the hold-back along with invoice+ deal they make.
