LEDs...for tail-lights Red? Or White?

Maybe this is a dumb question......I want to put LEDS in the rear turn-signals which color would I use? The outer lens is of course red. If I use white will it shine brighter or red? Me thinks the white may not work as well as white LEDs are actually modified blue LEDs and red is the way to go; am I wrong? and one more question....which resistor kit will work? The 6ohm 50 watt ones?

I'd use red. The red lens shouldn't attenuate any of their brightness.

Have you or anyone else actually used red LEDs? Has anyone tried white LEDs and think they don't work?

Not for this purpose, but I built another electronic project using a red LED behind a red bezel and it didn't seem to dim it at all. I think a white LED can look really bright, but not so much after filtering all but the red out of it. In my experience, it would be less bright than the red one and more expensive.

If you use white leds in a red housing, you'll be telling people you want to turn using your pretty pink signal!

I put red leds in my eclipse (all red housing) and it's MUCH brighter now. Go w/the red leds.

yeah that's what I thought.....they may look pink or even purple.

what about my 2nd question though? As far as load resistors go. 6ohm 50 watt are pretty much what you see vendors selling. I tried these on my old BMW and they didn't work. Will they work on the TL?

I have the white led's in mine. The color looks red-orange. You will also need a loader or they will blink real fast.
