LED License Plate lights- Hopefully flicker proof

Did my homework around the board for putting LEDs in to light the plate. I suspect a factor in just replacing the bulbs with LED units is the fact that the resistor is suspended from the ends. Looking at different models of units that work great in a rough enviroment I found out that they are all "potted" units. This is when the LEDS and electronic goodies are encased in a hard resin, thus giving everything solid support and keeping it from moving.

on tek-toys and superbrightleds.com they have this unit. I ordered 2 as I wasnt sure how I was going to do this.

We've all seen how to take the stock lights out so I wont explain it. I removed the trunk lid liner and got the room I needed. Pictures explain this a lot better:

The silver you see behind the lights are just simple cut outs that are wedged between the back of the light and the trunk metal. A little bit of silicon to keep the weather out and all is well. Also worth noting was I drilled a pass thru hole for the power wires.

Using your basic power theifs it was fairly easy to wire. The worse part was cutting away factory tape

and hows it work - Well I had spent a lotta time grinding down some shims and making the plate lit but minimal over cast onto the bumper. Welp I overtightened the lights and tweaked it outta whack. As for light output I think it works fine

How it looks in the day time -

And night-time

Is this the PIAA led? Is it a wedge type light in there?

I bought a set of amber 9 led bulbs from tek-toys and one of them started to flicker. I took it out and made sure everything look good and put it back in and it was still flickerking. I emailed Brian at tek-toys back about the probably twice and still havent had a reply yet. I guess after about 8 months of use your on your own. Good luck to everyone else.

Do you see how the resistors are suspended by their ends? I suspect that is the cause to the flicker.

I suspect Deke is correct. In my tec-toys 9 led cluster that failed, you could see break in the filament and it hear it rattle like a shot lightbulb.

Dougler,
I've tried the 9 led and 12 led clusters... The 12 led clusters you're linked to on ebay are 3 dollars cheaper from superbright leds. I use those (blue) in my door panels. For reverse lights, consider the led I listed above.

Leedog,
I need xtin to come back and take the photos. I suck at taking pictures, especially at night.
Trust me, those tiny HP single LEDs are the bomb. screw the fragile 9/12 led clusters, these are the ones to have. They're brighter than the stock reverse lights.

I wonder if drilling a small hole and then filling the open air space with epoxy would work? Might have some ill effects as far as long term operating temps go...

Those are only 1 watt LED's right? I recall seeing some 6.5 watt single unit LEDs somewhere....

I also had LED backup lights and put back the stock bulbs. They were way too dim and useless. I do have LED turn signals all around no relay so RICER blinking speeds.

Brian from Tec-Toyz can get you those. Ask him for pics. I saw them and I think they look great. I'd post them, but they're his pics. I'll ask him permission to post them.
