Leather seat peeling!?

So I noticed that the leather started to look like it was peeling just a little bit at one of the seams where it meets the side bolster. I decided to condition the leather with some lexol thinking that would help make the leather more flexible and not crack / peel. As I was rubbing in the lexol the leather started to just peel off! Some pretty big chunks were coming off so I stopped, but this just doesn't look right.

I guess it's not that noticeable, but it's going to drive me nuts and I'm not going to even want to move in the seat since its just going to probably keep getting worse. I just turned 49,000 miles, so I'm getting close to the end of the factory warranty. Do you guys think this is something Acura will cover? If not, how much am I looking at to just replace the perf. leather portion on the drivers seat?

Here are some pics:

Thanks for your help

(ps. I tried using search but for some reason its not working for me)

Wow first time seeing that. Not sure what the dealership would say. Wouldn't hurt taking it to them and asking them if they can replace it. If they are nice enough maybe they will. Don't know if they could say that is from "wear and tear"

not really, the are on par with the RL seats. I think you may just have gotten a bad cow butt for your seat. Go to the dealer and show them that it's peeling off in huge chunks. Tell them that you have only conditioned them using Lexol and have never used anything but a damp cloth to clean the seat. That def. is a manufacturer defect.

No he didnt get a bad cow, he got the right cow, as a matter of fact the only cow. My seats are like this as well and I only have 30k miles. My seats were like this also on my 2nd gen TL before the warranty was up.

Take it to the dealer and have them reupholster it under warranty but.. be warned that the new leather might look off if they dont do the entire car since the color will not match. If you're anal like me it will bother you.

the search tool is still indexing the forums so it isn't working at the moment.

I have 56K on my TL, its my daily driver and all the seats are sat in all the time. I have the infamous 04 and only 1 seat has had "peeling leather" and that was caused by my stupidity by gouging it by accident with a screwdriver when taking out the rear seats. Maybe I got a happy california cow

im only at 17k miles and my seats are in pretty bad condition too.

i take care of them well, the same way we take care of all of our cars.
infact, my moms 04 benz's seats are better then my tl's, and it was well over 60k

Thanks for the replys, so I guess I'm not the only one that has had this problem then. All the other seats look great, its just the drivers seat that has this issue. Looks like its starting to happen on the butt part of the seat too.

So lets say worst case Acura says they won't replace the driver seat leather. Can I just peel off all the top coat (it seems to peel off pretty easy)? Whatever is below looks like the same color (as seen in the pics), although not as shiny. Probably wouldn't be a good idea, just wondering if it would be a possible solution.

Too bad Tripnbeats is on the other side of the country - I would definitely pay to have some better leather installed by someone who is an anal Acura fanatic like most of us here

tripnbeats is an amazing member. A good upholstery shop should be a able to get your a new section of leather installed there to replace that messed up one in the worst case senario, but try the dealer first.

my front two are seeing some pretty bad wear. no cracking or ripping, just looks really worn out. a few times a week i will take leather care wipes and wipe down the two. it's better, but the seat cushion thigh supports on the outmost part of the seat (not the seat belt buckle side, that side is fine) has the worst wear. my 04 just turned 55k
