Launching an automatic

i have a bone stock tl S auto (i know i know. its my first auto) but no one wants to race. all i get is highschool chicks and yuppy mommies giving me the eye. might be a good thing as i dont really know how to launch an automatic car. i dont wanna neutral drop it cause i wasted my moms transmition doing that in highschool and i know that just flooring it cant be the right way to get this hoss moving

anyone have any pointers on the initial launch ill love ya forever.

PS: please dont send me pointers that will cause me to waste the tranny cause i cant afford the 6spd conversion...yet

yeaa it's a good way to launch, besides, it's less damaging to ur transmission if you power brake it - better than just flooring it because it doesn't have that "jolt" to the transmission

maybe a little better for the tranny, but not for your brakes. I just ease in a little until I'm at 10mph or so and still in first and then step on it.

That's what I've been doing. Everyone talks about these neutral drops. My question, is it ok to drop into and out of neutral while the car is rolling(normal driving) but without your foot on the gas? I like to drop it into neutral to avoid downshifts when i like to coast, and then put it back in drive when i want to accelerate. As long as I wait long enough am I fine?

Back to the topic, I found that if I ease into the pedal til like 10mph then the tires don't spin as much (and i've had friends who've gotten tickets for that). So I go about 3/4 throttle and then step on it.

thanks for the information guys..i used to just throttle at at almost 5000rpm and the put it into neutral and burn out and go.but i just blew my tranny and engine about a week ago.lol
soo i ordered a new engine and transmission from japan..with 45000km

my car feeels alot faster now..more torque and power, but im soo scared to launch like how i used to before ,learn my lessson.

but i am gonna try your guys way and lets see how it works out haha..

im so sick and tired of getting raped 1st gear , not enough torque. do you guys know any way i could increase more torque? i already have "ur pulleys, cold air intake, remus exhaust"!

im thinking about getttin headers.but dont know which one..anything else that could increase torque and hp? thanks homies

i never thought that the TL is lacking any power in 1st gear, lol! I mean it has more than enough torque to spin the front wheels even without power braking or neutral drop!

normal. you could just try it to see what happeneds, cuase ur handbrake cant handle the power.. the car would still just go. though.. i find brake launching with the TL is quite funny, cause i hafta stomp on the brakes HARD to stop it from moving. my av6 wasnt this bad.. though i did have modded brakes on that car.

i agree, what i do is i step on the brake and gas to about 2k rpm. the car would stay still and when your ready to race, let go of the brake and push on the gas..this will give u great launch and get the car up to speed quick.

hold brake(firm) rev to about 2krpms, release the brake and mashthe pedal(in that order) i messed around with it today, it definatly helps with the lurching of just mashing the pedal

nos cost ya about 500-1k installed. there are 2 systems: wet and dry. look um up to see what is gonna suit ya better. and no its not bad used in moderation but if you put like a 100 shot on and ya use it (especially in the high rpms) your motor takes a bigger beating, that being nos adds more O2 to your combustion chambers to make a bigger bang. the bigger the bang the harder the wear and the sooner your gonna jack something up. save your cash man, buy your chick a necklace or get some nice rims

Wheel spin really isn't much of an indicator of power because my old 106hp 1990 CRX Si would obliderate the tires in 1st, spin them hard into 2nd, and sometimes get a chirp into 3rd. I believe that car was only capable of low 16s.

I cannot believe there are actually people doing neutral drops. I don't care what's been done to the tranny, a neutral drop is a death sentence for an auto. The correct way to launch any auto car is to brake torque or brake stall. Engage the brakes, mash the gas to the floor, wait about 1-2 seconds, release brakes. Don't hold gas and brake for longer than 2 seconds though because it builds excessive heat.
