Changing auto-trans fluid
I'm going to tackle changing out the factory automatic transmission fluid this weekend. I've followed the threads in this forum to the point I feel this shouldn't be too difficult. A few questions before I start however. Can I safely jack up the front of the car with a garage style floor jack? I understand the aluminum plate at the front is a jacking point. I'd put a piece of 2x6 wood on the jack plate to spread the load. OK? Then I remove a cover plate at the transmission drain. Let completely drain (10 minutes OK?), put bolt back in and re-fill. Now here's where I need some details. I unjack the car and drive it around the block and also shift to reverse to circulate the new fluid. Then jack the car up and repeat this process, then repeat this process again a third time - correct? Did I leave any important detail out? Thanks for any helpful comments. I'm using the standard Acura brand auto-trans fluid I purchased at my Acura dealer.
My car will be hitting the 30K mile mark next month on my '05 TL so I was interested in doing the same thing. Can anyone post a picture of where exactly the Transmission Drain plug is at? I drain and fill my '98 3.2TL every year and that is one of the easiest things to do. Please help!
Not certain as to how many miles on the Acura, but not really necessary to drain/refill 3 times, unless you feel energetic.

safety point 1: i wouldn't use a wood block on the jacking arm for the floor jack. just make sure that the lifting plate on the floor jack is aligned with that square metal jack point on the undercarriage of the front of the car and u should be fine.

Yea..you are right...single change doesnt get rid of all the old oil...Here's an equation that helps determin how much old oil is left after each drain, where x is the drain attempt and y is the percentage of old oil left after each attemp in the tranny. So insert in 0 for x and you get 1.0 (or 100%) old stuff left in the tranny (basically, you havent performed a drain
). So for draing 1 time(s) you get 59 percent of old fluid left in tranny. Yea...i get bored some times,
