I didn't race one nor have I even seen one in real life, but I stumbled upon this site: www.speedandmotion.com. I was especially drawn to this video:

It's a Murcielago pushing it's top speed on a near empty freeway. The 3rd and final attempt, they get 219mph out of the car on a public road ... which is insanity.

I am not encouraging this or do I agree with it, but I think it's interesting to watch how fast things are moving. Thought some of you would be interested in the power of this car.

Favorite part was the 214mph camera angle looking at the road ... it's funny looking at the exit signs flying by ...

Absolutely fun to watch but completely stupid on a freeway.

I would love to see the new 2008 CL65 do a top speed run without the speed limiter (612 HP, 738 Ft-lb TQ)

 

I cannot stop watching the fly-by pass at 219mph towards the end. All I keep thinking is if he crashes his body and car would turn into molecules pieces.

 

A friend had the Brabus T-12 version of the CL65 with 703hp. It was fun going to the street races and beating a Kenne-Bell supercharged Mustang Cobra in a 5,000lb car. Traction control light would flash on dry pavement at 50mph. Top speed was governed to 155 but it was still pulling very hard. Probably a 180mph car.

 

That flyby was awesome. Sound was amazing too. I got to drive one once and only got to open it up for short bursts because we were in the middle of a busy cruising spot. Now I wish I would've taken it to a more remote spot but I had girls on the mind at the time lol.

 

IIRC, the dude was arrested because of that video. I can't look at it now to see if it's the same vid because I'm on 56K ATM, but I saw a video several months ago about the same car and the same top speed, so I'm guessing it's the same one.

Impressive car: idiotic driver. I couldn't truly enjoy the video to its full extent just knowing the potential people he endangered here and also the fact he'll surely do it again, and quite possibly with tragic results. My take is this: If you can afford this car, you can certainly afford the track time, autobohn, whatever. End of story.

I looked at the video on Youtube and somebody said it was the 202 freeway in Mesa, Arizona.

When I get 4 new tires and a radar detector ..... :P.

 

Nice car, defintely stupid driver. Shouldn't be looking at the speedo when you're driving that fast.

 

Eh the fastest I'm ok with seeing someone go is probably a hair over 120mph, then it starts to get hard to respond to someone doing something stupid in front of you.
