lack of locks

Am I the only person who thinks that a $35,000 car should have a lock on the passenger door and trunk? I drive another car with a key fob and don't want to carry two fobs.

I am an occasional driver of my wife's 05 TL and went shopping with her on a snowy day. The only way I could get into the trunk with an armful of bags was to open the driver door and use the internal release.

I notice that the MY'06 Accord has the same "feature." How stupid is this? Did they really save that much money?

Depending on where the key hole is placed it can look like crap. Just my opinion.

I liked how my past Audi and Mercedes worked. There was a button just under the lip of the trunk lid, and if the car doors where unlocked you could open the trunk by pressing that hidden button.

It is not a cost-saving approach, but rather an effort to make the car look more streamlined, with less distractions. Plus the area is more prone to scratches.

It has never bothered me, because I always have my key fob. I have maybe used my key to open the door probably 3 times in the "almost 2 years" I've had this car.

Edit: Didn't even notice this was in "Tires, Wheels & Suspension". IBTM.

I would argue it's for anti-theft too.

On my Audi S4 someone 'drilled' right through the door locks. No lock, no place to drill through...

Although a button/sensor would make sense. My RL has the sensors on front doors and trunk - and the 2005 version of the G35 has buttons. This may or may not be the approach on the mid-life refresh due in 2007...

Smart guy, huh. j/k

Welcome to the board, fire1! It takes a little time to get used to having only one lock on the car. I think it's for the best for the reasons stated above.

Absolutely love the fact that there is only one lock. Makes the car look a lot better and I can't remember the last time I inserted a key into a lock in the car this year.

Heck....you really would like my car then as well as anybody else that did the doorlock cover mod.....there are actually those of us that HATE the look of those doorlock holes and actually switch out the drivers door lock cover for a matching one to the back door with NO hole in it for the lock....how about them apples.....wouldnt that just piss you off! You HAVE to use the key fob....only way other than to remove the cover.

wow people are funny about this.. those that hate key locks on cars since it does not look as stream lined. Hard to tell when you are driving. A color keyed button to the side of the car (it's on the G) takes care of it.

Come to think of it I hate all the dam door knobs on all the doors in my home. I think I will have them removed since the doors will look more streamlined.

isn't it easier to hit a button on the fob than find a key and insert it in a keyhole while carrying bags etc?? is carrying an extra remote that inconvenient? imo, there is nothing better than keyless entry... it was designed for convenience.

I understand the appearance thing as I work for a major American motorcycle manufacturer, but I seldom use the key on my Accord because I carry the fob for it. I just don't like having to carry 2 fobs. Maybe if they made a key that had the fob in it like some other OEM's.

^ Well that was uncalled for. (edit by mod Ron a: referring to the previous post which I just deleted to return this thread to an informative one instead of one that will probably start a flame war)

By the way, fire1...I agree regarding the integrated fob & key. It was an oversight that hopefully will be corrected in the future.

I am not willing to make a hybrid Accord/TL key as others have though. It has some disadvantages to it.
