Thumbs down Keys Too Bulky For My Pocket

My TL key and remote key fob are a handful. Together with a few other mandatroy keys, they don't fit into my tighter jeans.

I had a rental Volvo in Nashville a few weeks ago. The key and remote were combined into one. And, the key pops out like a switchblade. It was really neat and I didn't have to hang them on my belt like a hill-billy.

If you're reading, Acura... a little constructive suggestion that doesn't cost anything. It would probably be cheaper.

yeah i have the same problem, the keys are too bulky with that separate fob. i like the switch blade design of some car manufacturers. can you believe even the 04 accord has the key and fob integrated together. i dunno why acura didn't go the extra mile and design a new key/fob combo.

I like the loose key rubbing against my leg and it makes my package look bigger.

You would love my dog if you like things rubbing against your leg.

Yeah, I have the same problem. With the car, house, work keys and the necessary beer opener :facelick: (ok, maybe at 31 I am too old for this), I feel like I am carrying a brick around in my pocket. Sometimes, the stupid key digs into my leg.

Actually, I don't have a problem with the keys in the pocket. I have a problem with the remote fob hitting my knee when I drive.

I guess I maybe have a strange driving position. I'm not super-tall (5'10" and a bit), but I sit fairly close- shortish arms, I guess. That puts a very slight bend in my leg at the knee, and it bumps against the remote fob fairly regularly.

I'd like something a bit smarter, I guess- I've seen those "switchblade" keys, I think Volkswagen has them on their Jetta and such. Something like that, or maybe just enlarge the key slightly and integrate the remote into it? Or get rid of the key entirely: have a bluetooth enabled fob and a pushbutton starter....

Now I'm dreaming

Maybe you should try getting rid of those tight-fitting, acid washed jeans from 1986 and spring for a pair of Easy Fits from The Gap.

VW/Audi has the best fob design. They use the switchblade one too.

Though the FX key is cool too (infiniti)... don't even have to take it out of your pocket to open the door, start the car, and drive. I love technology.

I've got a just a MDX to keep the TL company (actually, MDX is the wife's ride). I just don't use the MDX fob because it's too much for one key chain to handle.

I don't have a lot of experience with Mercedes, but I rented a C220 in Europe a month ago and the key seemed to be infa-red or something. It was very compact, and looked like one of the switchblade keys - but a key didn't actually come out.

Ppl talk to this topic before. Acura/American Honda will carry some new keys to states soon, just like those JDM Honda vehicles.

As GaleForce said above, lots of carmakers have this type of key already, including Honda.

man i wished the TL had the smart key, it makes life so much easier. the only thing about that honda smart key pictured above is that its missing buttons in case you want to remotely unlock your door or trunk. say if someone else wants to get something from your car and its across the street. or if you want to remotely open your windows to air out like you can with our current remote.

I've actually scratched the black surface of my key because the remote fob kept rubbing against it. The key looks like it belongs to a 3 year old car not a 3 month old car (barely). I'm not sure if I prefer the remote "card" solution, but a consolidated key/remote would be awesome...

Yup, my 03 accord had an integrated key\remote. I really liked it. Perhaps they will do that for the 04 TLs. If that happens, maybe those with the 03 TLs can buy an 04 key and have it work with the system. I would pay Acura to have an integrated key setup. That is once I actually get my TL.

My friend has an A4 3.0 and the batteries on both of his keys died...

Correct. That is exactly what my 2003 Accord key looked like. If Acura comes out with a similar key for 2005 TL, I would pay to get two made without a doubt.

I miss my 2003 Accord key also. When I saw the keys to the 04 TL I was surprised. I compared my Accord key to my TL key and the Accord key is smaller due to the fact that it's integrated so you don't have to carry a key and a seperate remote.
The Accord key is made of better materials also. I dropped it many times and not one scratch on it. The TL key and remote is all scratched up and I never dropped it before.

same problem here but i have somewhat baggy jeans but the keys feel heavy in my pocket, so my quick fix is keep the TL key and Fob apart from all the other keys it will save the new look of the Fob wont chip or fade as quickly, i keep it in the smaller pocket of my jeans fits perfectly

BTW: what is a FOB (remote??) :clown:

I like the large key.
I like the sharp edges too.

When I'm keying somebody's car, I can really get leverage and get down to the metal.

Why not spread the load out over several pockets? Every pair of pants usually has at least 4 pockets. So, all you whiners get out your calculators and divide the number of keys by the number of available pockets in order to distribute your keys equally. Problem solved.

Can ya hear me now?

Legacy jeans. It's laundry day. You grab what you got. They weren't that tight when I bought them. :lol2:

Besides, I'm not a rapper or hip-hopper and my underwear doesn't stick out the top.

Also, I set trends; I don't follow them. Why deprive the world of my package? :lol2:
