that sounds like someone who never cut open a filter!
honda filters are low quality that honda can buy mass amounts of for cheap
K&N and Mobil1 come down the same production line but get slightly different cans and internals- both high quality

The k&N box tells you the many advantages- besides superior filtering, the best one to me is the nut on the end- makes removal a simple job with no efforting

I have used the K&N filters for years. IMO it's a better quality filter than OEM oil filters.

it collects the combustion byproduct crud the oil carries to it and captures it fully

i know for sure oem should be better than KN because it trap more dirts than KN. Using OEM filter the throttle body can stay cleaner than KN filter. I used KN filter before and i don't see any performance or benefit....is just waste of money. Some knowleaable members on here stated that OEM filters > aftermarket filters

We're discussing oil filters not air filters.. not remotely the same.

K&N is a decent cellulose medium filter. The OEM filter has a similar design with an anti drainback valve but it has less filter media and is cardboard construction, which I really don't care for.. Otherwise, unless Champion Labs makes it.. I would definitely be skeptical.

BTW: Here is a video that shows each brand being cut open. This guy has no concept of common decency, so be aware that he cusses A LOT! Quite literally the entire video. Still pretty informative...

Honda-Honeywell & Fram = POS!

^ lol... damn... that video should get an emmy for comedy..

btw guys.. what this guy discovered that some of you might not realize is there are a lot of brands of oil filters and all priced differently but there's only 4 or 5 oil filter mfg's.. sometimes you just buying into a name. Look up Champion Labs..

another funny thing is most Honda service shops will have a display of a Honda filter taken apart.. praising the "technology" and "advanced filter properties"..

Well they used to be quite nice. When Honda 1st switched to the smaller filter it was part number 15400-PLM-A01 made by Toyo-Roki of Japan shown here:

Then a few months later the 15400-PLM-A02 filter replaced it. This is crappy Honeywell/Fram model.

If you can find the A01 filter (handa-accessories.com says they have them), they seem like a pretty decent filter. I have not found these at any dealership...

If you're going to pay that much for a filter, you might as well step it up a notch and get one with a fully synthetic media that will filter and flow better. Donaldson, Amsoil, and Royal Purple are the only ones with this media.

K&N and Mobil are good, great construction but don't have the great media. Still much better than stock.

The synthetic media filters listed above all come with a silicone anti-drainback valve, wire mesh reinforced media, metal endcaps of course, and are rated for extended drain intervals.

RP is available at Pep Boys and Donaldson and Amsoil are mail order.
