Just sold my 2004 GTO & bought an '06 TL...
2006 Anthracite w/Nav. Sold my Quicksilver/Redhot 6spd GTO 'cause it was a POS. I regretted selling my 1997 Acura CL to buy the GTO & I missed the Acura quality. I think I'm gonna like this one. The GTO was 8 days shy of a year old.

I know I've posted on this forum that many people here put too much emphasis on US vs. Japan...but so far three cars built in Australia have been sold in the US, and at least two of them (Mercury Capri and GTO) have lacked in the quality department. I'm not sure about the late 1990s Mitsubishi Diamante. Then again, this is a rather small sample size.

I love cars!
^^Good question. I was also wondering. Coming from a 97 Z28, I know that GM HAS to build those cars well, since they're good to 150+ mph. And why stick the Vette engine in what is otherwise a POS? I think he simply may have had a lemon, not that the rest of the car is junk. I don't buy that part.

Yeah, the interior in the GTO was awesome (cosmetically), the fit & finish were OK. The issues I had with the car overshadowed the sweet interior, though. See my answer below.

the tl is a luxury sedan daily driver type vehicle not a race car.. and for those who try to race the TL your kidding yourself front wheel drive only gets you so far. good move there buddy the TL looks at least 3 times better. im about to get a TL to compliment my twin turbo g35.. one for when i want to get crazy and one to just chill and drive smooth. the TL is a great car

since it was new with 14 miles on it:
the driver's seat track broke twice (I only weigh 230, so I don't think it is me - besides the only time it has to be moved is to put something in the back seat) as nobody else drives the car
The guage cluster flashed bright/dark intermittantly
The radio turned up/down on its own
the horn blew going around turns
the "overheat" message displayed on the IP cluster when the car is started in the morning
The exhaust rattled
the front bumper never fit correctly
the clutch would not fully disengage, causing the car to move when putting it in gear with the clutch fully depressed
The paint was falling off of the hood, front fenders, and a spot on the roof.
The brake rotors were warped (car was babied, not really driven hard enough for warped rotors)
Tires wearing badly
The car was not as fast as it should have been - the 6 spd supposedly has a computer controlled torque management that retards the timing when it wants to.
It did not handle all that well.
It was a GM
The last one sealed the deal. When the paint started peeling, I took it to a local dealer that claimed the car was repainted (actually wrecked) and that is why the paint is peeling. I then contacted Pontiac to tell them with all of these issues & the fact that a dealer (actually 2 dealers) told me it may have been wrecked before. Pontiac just kept stringin' me out & pissing me off by not doing anything about it. My dealer knew I wanted the car replaced & couldn't help. For 2 months, Pontiac couldn't provide ananswer, just kept saying "sir we are doing the best we can". I then decided to just get it fixed & sell it. But the dealer told me they were just going to mask it off, sand it down & repaint it. I wouldn't accept this. I wanted the panels removed, stripped & repainted. I even tried to get another dealer to do this. They wouldn't touch it. It is like this car was black flagged. Here, I have a $33,000 car that has never been right since day one & nobody can give me an answer as to how it is going to be fixed.
This is not to mention the panels & parts that were broke when the car was serviced at the dealer, then they tell me this is the 1st "GTO " they worked on & it is a learning experience for them. I tried another dealer & it was the same story.
I bought a "new" car, not a "repaired" car. The car was never going to be right.
All in all, I decided that my $30+K would be better spent on another car.
So when I had all of these problems, I parked the car & bought a 1995 Acura Integra with (at that time) 185,000 miles on it for $2500. Funny that it had less things wrong with it than my "new" $33K GTO. I decided to sell the GTO and buy another Honda product - so here I am.

Wow, that's some bad luck with the GTO. If certain TL owners here had the problems you had, we would not hear the end of it.
Congrats on the new ride. Hopefully your TL will be as problem-free as mine - or at least less problematic than that GTO.

Yep... that was me. I wasn't trying to start a "bash fest" between the A-zine & GTO peeps, so I apologize if that's how it looked. Thanks!

I looked at a 2004 GTO before getting the TL; the dealership couldn't get rid of the 2004 GTOs even at $24K. The dealership is now advertising the 2006 GTO at $28K (about $4K below MSRP??), but stories like yours do give one pause regarding GM vehicles, particularly to those of us who have only one primary car.
Hope you have much better luck w/the TL than the GTO.
My TL has been great so far, like the other Honda/Acura vehicles I've had-- three visits to dealer for warranty issues spead over 4 vehicles in 18 years. At least the TL is assembled here in the US!

Congrat's on getting ride of "the general junk" and findin' your way back . I am about to do the same. I'm dumping my GM that I paid a fortune for as like you I have a laundry list of stuff that is wrong with the car yet GM sees no problem or has no solution yet. Nice. In any case, I'm looking forward to joinin' ya over here on the TL side in about a month as soon as things get settled MY piece of "general junk" lol!
