Quote: I said no to a $15,000 offer for my TL. There's a member here who just sold his immaculate 05 6MT for $15,000 (same combo as yours). I don't know all of his specific details, his TL is as clean as mine. If I owned your TL, I'd accept the offer.
Dang! $15k for an 05?! Really?? I'm starting to get the new car itch & am giving serious thought to selling my 07 Type-S 6MT - 180k, immaculate inside & out, mild mod package, I'm solidly in the 'adult-owned' category - and was thinking its worth somewhere in the $8k - $10.5k range. Am I underestimating the market?

In all the years I had the TL, I don't think I ever noticed torque steer. I spent the majority of my life driving FWD cars and the TL for sure had the least amount of torque steer out of anything else I have owned....and the TL was the highest HP vehicle out of them all. Even my current vehicle, V60, has less HP, but more TQ, has very little torque steer. I came from GM entry/budget level platforms (J & N body) and those things changed lanes on their own if you weren't careful.

Agreed; the only times I notice torque steer on my 6MT TL is when one tire track has ice on it and the other side does not.

I own a nearly show room, pristine condition 2004 TL with 99,000 miles. I don't have the BEST TL but it's one of the very rare few in it's condition and everything done was at no expense spared including maintenance work which was all OEM replacements. I have a well documented build thread on all the work done, so there's no doubt the level of care and attention this vehicle has gotten. Just a few recent photos

Now THAT is one beautiful car. But. Doesn't really address my question. I'm just wondering if my car is in fact worth more than I'm thinking its worth. That & the fact you have one sweet ride aren't mutually exclusive.

Thank you for the kind words. You have a TL-S with a 6MT, which is harder to find than a base model 6MT. The type-s 6MT usually priced the highest out of all 3rd gens, more so in specific colors and packages. Depending on the condition (conditions vary from person to person) of the vehicle 12K-13K would be a realistic starting price and see where it goes. The real issue, is dealing with the price bashing idiots.. I've always said, even the highest prices 3rd gen's sell. It's a matter of time and the right buyer.

2008 NBP 6 MT Type S. Black interior, so basically black on black. One owner (I'm the 2nd owner) bought back a month ago...$10,500

Oh and 118,600 miles at purchase, now 119,152

Hmm, that's interesting. If I'm in 2nd around 4-5k and get on it, it tends to torque steer a fair amount. Might just be me or my individual car? When I first got it and played with it a bit, it almost changed lanes from how bad it was lol

True & true.
Silver
Excellent condition, inside & out. If yours is a 10 (and it is), mine's a 9.2
AEM V2 CAI >XLR8 j-pipe > Magnaflow resonator > deleted 'mid muffler' ...car has a wonderful growl
Handful of minor cosmetic mods ...painted brake calipers red & 'Brembo' decals instead of the generic 'Acura' (both front & back), drilled & slotted rotors, wheel spacers, blah, blah

Thanks. This helps. I was waffling on whether or not to sell it and this has helped make my mind up. I think I will.

Anytime and keep in mind, with covid used car market is hot right now and there's always someone looking for a clean 6MT Type-S. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.

I hear it has a lot to do with the LCA set up.

Quote: Yeah that's one of my few complaints about the car; the torque steer is abysmal. Need to get an aftermarket torque dampener of some kind to try and somewhat remedy that. Also the rev hang is a bit annoying at points as well; but I know a tune after a few bolt ons will solve that.
I completely forgot about rev hang, I initially thought the intake drive by wire was sticking or slow to react.

Thats been my experience as well, but I think a lot of it is the limited slip in the manual. In the rain, if I plant my foot down in second gear I better be holding onto the steering wheel. I also get a similar effect when I turn and mash the throttle, but dry and straight flat asphalt it isn’t too bad. I don’t have much experience with fwd cars that have lots of power. The Volvo v70 t5 my parents had back in my young days had much less torque steer but it was auto. My 2001 CLtypeS auto open diff didn’t shock me with torque steer. The next highest hp fwd I have is the odyssey 248 hp and that is also auto and open differential, rest of the cars were awd or rwd.

bottom line; TL has some flaws but it’s awesome

6MT's in general are hard to find as they're only about 1 in 40 of these cars, and therefore typically command higher prices.
The '04/5/6 6MT was the unofficial Type-S for those years.

That's an interesting point; haven't thought about that. I plan on doing some suspension stuff in the near future; mainly coilovers and maybe AM sway bars.

Yeah the rev hang is a bit annoying, but considering I don't track the car and just drive it normally most days it's not a huge deal.

I'm going to toy with the suspension and i think NRG makes a decent torque dampener for our cars, after that I'll see how it handles. All in all I love the car despite its flaws, best car I've owned so far. I'm also a tad jealous as you have the ASM funny enough that was the color I initially wanted before buying my NBP.

About a year ago I was looking at a 2008 Type S 6-speed with 70k miles. It looked new - sold for right around 15k on BAT. I was comfortable up until it hit 14k...although now I sort of wish I had just increased my offer.

That has been the only time in the last five or six years where I have seriously considered paying that much for a TL.

Welps, if you'd consider yourself 'still in the market', keep an eye out. I've some things to work through with kids & family coming home for Christmas, including helping our son relocate from Altus Air Force Base in Oklahoma to Fairchild AFB in Spokane, but I'm pretty sure that at some point between now and the 1st of the year I'm going to get mine photographed and posted for sale on a few sites. $13.8k is sounding about right to me.
