Just come back from test driving!
Today I decided to go out and look and test drove couple TL-S, first one was nice but the color nor the price with k miles in my range. I went ahead and try to see a second one in NJ, Deluxe Auto Sales of Jersey City YES STAY AWAY FROM THEM! I asked "do you have an 08 TL-S with 54k still inventory? " sale man replied yeah the one up front right there. So he got the key to the car and I noticed that the car wasn't the one I am asking for, the TL-S he showed me has 79,9XX miles, he told me "the other car was in the shop for transmission repair (I was like WTF) then I asked him "how much this one listed for?" he replied "don't worry about it man let go for a test drive" I told him I am not here to BS or trying going for a joy ride so What the price?" he replied "you need to take a test drive" I said "hey I already test drove couple TL-S and yes I know how they are handling, he repeatedly you need to test drive the car. Then he ask me to show my licences (spell check), then I it to him, then he start to make copied and fill out some paper work, I was like WTF are you doing with my personal information? I have to threatened them that I would call the police if you don't gave me back the license and the copy of the license for stealing personal information. I told them "I haven't even touch your car yet why are you holding my personal info?" his boss said "gave it back to him" I then proceeding out the door, his boss said "you don't want this TL for $15k?" I said "NO THANKS, I WOULD NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM YOU GUY" slammed the door and I go back home. I mean I really extend my price range up to $20k but why I got treated like I gonna buy some shit box. Please now I make a notice to myself that I would NEVER buy any vehicle come out from NJ. Sorry guy but I am tired and just piss off.
But I dont think the OP wanted to test drive the car just yet he wanted to know the price in which he got the run around.
I dont think its just jersey I mean there are janky car dealerships EVERYWHERE.
After that little fiasco I wouldnt wanna buy a thing from them either.
lmao
You're right... They do make a photocopy but did you read what else he said?
I don't think they are supposed to fill out paperwork.... Just copy

I feel you brotha. Before you head out always go to Dealerater.com and honestly finding a used car and be a pain the ***. It took me close to a year to buy my TL goodluck tho, also considering taking someone with more experience with you.
Yup your correct...

I got really piss off guy especially I am from CT drove 2.5 hours to NJ and ran into this little shit, yes they would take a photo copy of your license but they fill out some paper work with down payment plan and shit like that that why I got so piss off. I told the guy that I would pay cash for the car NOT financing.

all the more reason why NOT to go to small used car lots, no matter how good the deal is.
i usually only like to deal with bigger car dealers, they typically like to keep and sell vehicles that are not full of gremlins (they have a reputation to uphold afterall). do you pay for that??? sure, but why buy from the small used car lot when you could potentially cough more money in maintenance/repairs than it's worth. used car buying is always full of risk.
any dealer that does that crap...run, dont' walk away. its pretty common that the dealer will make a copy of your DL. extra paperwork...not so much. if they ask how i'm paying...it's none of their business until it comes time to actually pay for the car.
OP-once you find that car...negotiate price first. NEVER discuss how you are paying for it. once you've finalized price...then you can talk about how you are paying. if they know you are financing they can manipulate numbers a little (give you good deal, then screw you in interest for financing) vs cash (give you okay deal and max out their profit). its all a game. know how to play it correctly and both the dealer and you will come to a fair agreement. (you want the lowest price possible, the dealer still needs to make money to keep the lights on and pay his salesman). good luck on your hunt.

Thanks for the input but first I am not trying to be cheap by expect paying little $$$ and get a good deal on vehicle. I am willing to pay out up to $25K but the mileages and condition must be meet with my requirement. Thanks for teaching me about the pricing stuff because I never fully understand about the behind of it, I am currently looking and having my local Acura dealer looking for one, they told me that I would give me a call as soon as they got the vehicle from Auction, Yes Pre-Own Certified Acura I would rather pay a little extra and not worry about any hidden surprises. I love that 12 months/12k miles bumper to bumper warranty lol.
Well as I recently bought my Tl Type S I recommend Open Road Acura of East Brunswick if you ever decide to come back to NJ there I believe the biggest Acura dealership in NJ in terms of volume besides Bridgewater Acura and the other Open Road in Wayne. Ive had good experiences there so far, not all jersey is bad just got to watch out for the small guy they tend to scheme more because they not seeing that "regular" customer as much as the bigger dealerships are. But GL with your adventure in finding a TL that suits you....
to the OP, kind of weird how the salesman was so insistent on a test drive. He was probably grabbing your lic to copy (which is norm if you actually intend to test drive). Carmax does it, and so did Norm Reeves Honda in Huntington Beach, CA (But again, we were intending to test drive anyway).
Good luck with your search. Sometimes, you can get deals from wholesalers or used car lots, ignore the salesman and look at the car, and do due diligence in getting it inspected by your own shop if you think it's the one.
That said, my friend purchased a 2007 RL with 73k miles for 16k from an auto wholesaler after getting it inspected at a reputable dealer. An awesome car for the price. Just helped him change the rear diff fluid this morning.

Dam I am going nut after test drove couple 3g TL-S they look so gorgeous especially from the rear, the quad tip exhaust looking just right not over done. the rim look so huge compare to my old 04-06 TL rim I had in my Accord and I think because they use 235 instead of 225 tire, Brembo brake also look sexy.

Man you got to move out of NJ aka the garbage state!!!

They have so many crooks and stupid laws.
STAY AWAY from small used car places, they suck. Checkout Ramsey Acura, ask for stuart in sales, I bought my 07' TLS there back then & spoke with him. He was nice to deal with & even to this day when I bring my car there for service I see him & we chat. Not about cars either, he doesn't try to sell me a new or used one, we joke around etc. Most people in sales won't give you the time of day after they sell you a vehicle let alone nearly 5 years later.
Crazy story about NJ dealer, I had a similar experience. My son wanted a Mazdaspeed Protoge about 4 years ago. I found one at a Newark, NJ dealer...pictures were awesome, had low miles, really looked like a good car and a good deal. I talked to the lot owner (not a native American, just saying) on the phone, all seemed good. I fly from Colorado Springs to Newark, pay for the shuttle ride to the dealer. Yes, the car is on their lot. But, the proprietary Mazdaspeed exhaust system has been changed, the Mazdaspeed audio unit had been removed, there was a tear in the back seat. None of this was shown in the pictures so what they had done was post pictures from another car or something. They definitely were from a Mazdaspeed, just not the one on their lot. The owner had flat out lied to me on the phone, knowing I was going to fly halfway across the country. And of course the owner was nowhere to be found (deported I hope)the day I showed up. So, I say ok, I'l go for a test drive. Young kid goes with me, (they did copy my license) I get the car off the lot and head straight for the airport (15 mins away), pull up to the departure terminal, park, tell the kid to tell his boss to f*** off and walk into the airport with my bag. Get a ticket and fly home. I reported the dealer to the 2 car sale websites, autotrader.com and cars.com that the car was on and they pulled all his ads. To this day I haven't seen another ad from this dealer on the web.
I am a student in Newark and I do not blame you guys for keeping away. I cut through some hoods on my commute, and there are always weird things to see.
To the OP: sorry that happened to you, it sucks.
