Just bought a TL-Type S; new to imports.

Just picked up a 08 blk on blk Type-S with AT. I'm typically a domestic guy. Built my own my own Camaro from scratch, which I still love and have (believe me, no Acura stands a chance in flat out speed). But, for daily duties, the lease rates on the TL combined with the features for the money were too good to pass up. I got the 08 for $33.5 which I thought was pretty good. Maybe I got ripped, but I thought I did well.

Now, like the car nut that I am, am looking for mod suggestions.

I'm just asking to point me in the general direction, knowing full well the topics have been discussed before, but I don't even know what companies to search for since they're so different from the domestic side.

In short, wheels with a dish to them, but at what point does the ride go to poop? (leaning towards Nitto Invo's for tires if possible) Are drops necessary to look right? What are the options for tunes and CAIs? . . . do they actually work, etc? That's really it. I'm unsure if the more HP is really the answer though, considering I'm dealing with a FWD car that can't really handle much more.

And obligatory pic:

Thanks guys.

wow... so much to say... so much to say

just go to the Black Market, and look at the sponsered vendor threads.. it will point you in the direction of just about every thing you could need or want or that is even available for this car, except for wheels.. you are on your own, unless you get RonJons (made my honda/acura)

Awesome deal. I was also looking at the blk/blk 08 TL-S but went with the WDP instead. This car is amazing. Congrats on your purchase. Welcome to foreign cars and AZ

another nbp to the crew

ps. um... acura tl? import... not exactly (more like ohio)

performance wise: aem/fujita or injen intake
wheels: 19" is what most get
suspension: a 1" to 1.5" drop is what is needed really... although 2" looks damn good

Well since I'm going through a federal credit union, there are no taxes. So even with all of the title, registration, document fees and Lojack install, it came out to about $34.5 out the door. I'll have to check the paperwork, but that seems right.

Yeah, that was pretty much a blanket statement. I guess I meant more like; atleast I haven't seen one. There's always someone faster and I'm sure I'll find them on a site like this. Either way though, here's a courtesy pic of the Camaro:

Thanks man.

Are there any tunes to be done with these cars? Also, does going to 19" ruin the ride? I mean, I know it looks sweet and all, but there are plenty of crap roads to be found around here.

i would personally get a-spec 18s to be on the safe side...but if you want 19s they should be fine as well, anything bigger though you might have some issues.

btw, if you wanna keep a factory-like look; look into the 08 accord cpe optional HFP 19" rims:

lol, yea...made in ohio, designed in california....

even gran turismo game series classifies Acura as an American car...because it was strictly built for the american market...for america.

but is it a domestic? naaaa....it's still a honda and it has a very much japanese heart....the engine...and the rest of the car just feels so japanese....very different from anything the big 3 has to offer (Ford, GM, Chrysler)

No 1/4 mile times yet, but on a bad tune with the overwhelmed injectors giving it everything they had it put down 262 RWHP and 365 RWTQ. It's in the process of getting its injection issues worked out. It's a 350 crate engine, backed up with a built 700R4 tranny.

funny thing is though invoice on an 08 TL-S is a little over 35g...so that's 1500-2000 under invoice...it don't seem possible since the dealership would technically be loosing money.

so if you get it for invoice (35g), you still gotta pay tax and all that shit so it'll go to about 38ish out the door....and that's generally considered a pretty damn good deal.

I would like to buy your old Type 'S' wheels when you get your new ones. Love the Camaro, my other car is a '59 Austin Healey roadster; do all the work myself. Keep 'em on the road (or track).

not bad at all....although with that tune the TL-S would give it a very good run depending on the transmission.

is the camaro manual or automatic? how about the TL-S?

the 6MT TL-S puts down 255fwhp on the dyno.

a stock 3.2L Acura NSX should definatly have you on the straight. as well as everywhere else....but your camaro is a pretty fast car nonethless, and i sence it's about to get faster

Both are autos, however, don't under-estimate the power of 365 RWTQ that peaks at 2600 RPMs in a 3250 lbs car.

u're right...it is pretty light too.

one thing though....when you're gunning the engine you're not at 2600 rpm so you don't need all the tq down that low....i'm sure you still have a lot of tq where your peak power is but it's most likely quite a bit less than at 2600...

anyway i'm sure it goes and the TL-S wudn't stand a chance (especially the auto)...but it's still pretty potent for a daily driver

Thanks man! But . . . uh . . what the hell is a "j-pipe?"

I will say that I'm not fond of smaller displacement engines exhaust, so I'm thinking that some wheels with a CAI will do the job . . . . . . atleast until I'm bored with that.

haha, no problemo! Like i said, i gotta make the time go by somehow today, lol

The J Pipe is, i guess, best described as the exhaust collector pipe that merges the Bank 1 and Bank2 headers (i think i got the terminology all upside down and backwards lol). Its found before the 3rd cat. heres a link to ATLP's J Pipe that has come pics. Hope this helps. Many have reported good gains (can be felt with the ole butt dyno) with minimal affects to sound.
