I'm just going to get it on the A_Spec suspension, color matched trunk lip spoiler, better/lighter rims and do some minor weight reduction and get all the exhaust work done from Pre-Cats to the back. Everything else I'll save for scheduled maintenance etc. that makes the most sense both financially and practicality wise.

I was also contemplating mods like you're doing but in the end the cost/power ratio is too bad and I'll just stick to a regular TL as a daily driver and then add bigger/better cars later when I have the finances to do so.
That's a blanket statement to say PCDs will fail emissions, since it's entirely location dependant. I live in NY and they don't do use a sniffer here, so PCDs are fine as long as defoulers are used to suppress a CEL. And honestly, I doubt the HFPCs would pass a sniffer in California. They're cleaner than deletes, but not by much.

Oh yeah. I vaguely remember you talking about that a long time ago. Do you think you'd still pass with HFPCs and a J pipe that deletes the third cat?

Haha yea we've talked about it before. I think hfpcs and no third cat would still pass the sniffer. But I also thought the sniffer was a thing of the past recently?

Ok here's an update on my mod situation. By middle of next week I will have all this fully installed - AEM CAI, RV6 High Flow PreCats, ATLP V2 J Pipe, ATLP High Flow 3rd Cat and XLR8 Dual Single Tip catback exhaust. What do you think my total gains would be over the stock hp on the 5 speed auto trans? I was thinking about 30. Thoughts?

I'm mostly locked in on focusing on the engine but I do plan to do some minor suspension work soon. I have bfgoodrich GForce comp2 All seasons on there and they're brand new so I should be good on tires for a while.
don't sink money into that car outside of repairs... 10 year old car is not worth spending an additional 6500 on considering mileage....oops to late.... good luck with that. hope you don't need some of that for things like timing belt in 40ish K or replacing 10 year old parts that have worn out...

what do you mean ALL THAT POWER????

the TL is one of the HARDEST cars to gain power. especially in 5AT form. that 5AT is so archaic that it robs sooooo much power, that the tranny will take the beating....not the front wheels

p.s. I'm pretty much bolted on with 6MT....i dyno'd 230 to the front wheels stock and with mods im at about 240whp.

I spent more that 5 grand for 10 hp.

it'll be even worse for the autos........
I at least can keep up or even surpass G37's at a roll....

the automatic TL's will have the hardest time because of the limitations in 4th gear. the gearing isnt made for that speed.

thats why its better to mod the six speed.

I say, if you're going to mod this car, especially the 5at, dont do it for the power increase. do it because you love changing things or improving things.

Its your coin but to sink that kind of coin into a 156k mile car is mindless.

TL platform was not mean for tuning, even with all the bolt on/ FI you still need a tuner that has excellent experiences in tuning that particular motor. Even with Hondata flash pro TL isn't mean any perfect car unless someone master tuning the motor but again how many people willing to drop $10k-$20k let say in a Supra or BMW M3/M4? This is why I keep my TL stock plus its a AT with tall ass gear ratio, if I need to sell the car its much easier to sell it stock vs all the mods. I remember a quote lol "don't try to make slow car fast unless you got deep pocket"

I understand that tuning a tl wont really do much. I just always thought its best to modd rwd or awd cars. Even stock, some of these tl's have quite a bit of torque steer, couldn't imagine tryna supercharge it and then floor it from a dig.. sounds dangerous.

I pretty much only roll raced when i had my TL.

Here's an update on what I've done so far -

Exhaust Fly-by :

Exhaust rev # 1 :

Exhaust rev # 2 :

This is with stock PreCats (Monday I will have the RV-6 high flow PreCats installed), AEM Cold Air Intake, ATLP V2 J-Pipe, ATLP High Flow 3rd Cat and XLR8 Base Duals. I listed everything done to the car since half the people on YouTube that have TL's refuse to tell people what's actually done to it. Enjoy.
