JJH question thread
New 07 type-s owner here, have a few questions. I have taken my stab at using the search function but can't really find what I'm looking for or the information is out dated. If you take the time to answer my questions, I will be very thankful.
1. The car was a high mileage car (130k) but on the Carfax report it says that the drive belt was changed 10k miles ago, is this the same thing as the timing belt? I sure hope so. If not, how can I find out if the timing belt has been changed?
2. As I just purchased the vehicle from a local dealership (they got it in on a new car trade in), I would like to take it somewhere to have it all checked out and make sure everything is in place and working correctly. Where would be a good place to take it to and is there such a service out there to just have a mechanic look over every aspect of your car to make sure it is operating/functioning correctly?
3. I live in Ohio right now and the weather is absolute crap. Snow all over the place and salt on the roads. I need to make sure that the car is not getting beat up but it is my daily driver. Is it okay to run it through the automatic car wash for now just so frozen snow/dirt is not caked on the sides of the car?
4. Can someone point me in the direction of a good tinted license plate cover that doesn't get crappy looking within the first few months?
5. The front bumper has a bunch of little specs and chips on it from all the highway driving I assume. Where is a good place to take it to to get it all fixed? Local body shop? Acura dealership?
6. For some reason, I can't enter my home address in the GPS. My street number is non-existent for some reason or another(even though my house is over 30 years old), is there a way around this? Not really a big deal if not.
Anything else or advice that you would like to throw my way, I'm all ears. I know that 90% of these questions may have been asked already but being the anal person I am, I like to get it all off my chest at once and really want to make sure I am doing everything I can to take care of this car the right way. It's in immaculate shape right now.
Heck, if anyone wants to suggest some mods, I'm all ears too. It's a NBP with the windows already tinted out. Not sure what other mods I should pursue right now. It has a powertrain warranty on it so don't want to do anything to void that.
Thanks for taking the time to read all of this!
Upcoming mods:
-cathode light above license plate (fire hazard)
-door/dome LEDs
All I have planned for right now, pretty pathetic. I have read a lot about how the AEM cold air intake makes the engine sound like a beauty. It's definitely a possibility.

1. Probably, but don't rely on CarFax for that info. Better to contact a local dealer, give them the VIN and ask if the service records indicate the Timing Belt Service being completed. That's where I'd start anyhow.
2. Acura might do it; I may have read about someone having an inspection done there. If so, you'd have to pay - could be pricey. Otherwise I'd google "Used car inspection yourtownname" and see what pops up. You need a local to provide direction on whether this or that mechanic is any good.
3. Should be OK. You'd be better off if you have good layers of protection from your normal wash & wax routine. The detergents are a bit harsher than you'd use for a hand wash. BUT getting the salt rinsed off (especially with an under-carriage spray) now-and-then is a good idea.
5. You can get a touch up paint pen at Acura and fill them in OR get it repainted at a good body shop (coulld be a bit pricey).
6. Never put your actual home address into your GPS. Put a nearby intersection, shopping center, school, etc.

Whoah your own personal thread.
Continental DWS for your location (tires).
Find a reputable body shop to handle those issues unless you can do it yourself (angieslist.com -- comes to mind)
To clean the car, just rinse it with water temporarily. I would stay away from automatic washes as it scratches the car. I recommend visiting the "Wash & Waxes" for more details on how to maintain the paint/exterior of the car.
Check local dealership and ask them if it has been done. Acura/Honda keeps all records of course. Don't get suckered into doing it also (they may lie). Let us know what they say.

^even a touchless will do more bad than good.
Most touchless washes either uses very strong chemicals or it will just smudge all the dirt and snow around.
My advice is to rinse the car with your hose, and buy some ONR (Optimum No-Rinse). Check Wash and Wax for more info.
What's FWIW-- I'm so bad with Acronyms.

Congrats! That's alot of mileage for a 5 year old car!
1. Call the dealer, they should be able to provide you a service history. Moreso, if this was reported on the Carfax since it was included on the report.
2. Have a local mechanic that specializes in Hondas/Acuras... just my opinion.
3. I run through the automatic touchless carwash WITH undercarriage spray once a week. If it gets above 35 degrees, I WILL hand wash and spray the hell out of the undercarriage with a hose w/ jet nozzel. Just make sure you dry the car afterwards. In the spring/autumn, put a good coat of wax on the car.
4. Dunno
5. Consider an A-spec kit. It covers up the bottom of your bumper, so if you have any minor chips/scratches, they will be covered up.
Otherwise, try a paint polish and scratch remover first and see what you can get out then go from there.
6. Put in an address close to your house. Is there an alternate spelling of your street? Make sure you select the correct city/state, otherwise, it won't find your street. If you must put in your home address, activate the PIN in order to go home.

Yeah, mine too - registration, service records, all kinds of stuff (potentially) with our address on it in the car.
Kind of silly not to put in the GPS I guess, but
, why make it too easy.
I found this in the MDX manual, it is very similar to ours, see the "By Go Home" section: https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/...606N00042A.pdf
I will check my TL manual later to confirm.
4. I got mine at pepboys almost a year ago and haven't had any issues with it. 6$ for a piece of plastic is kinda steep but whatever. Just be careful not to the tighten license plate screws too much or you'll crack it
