I've traded my 2005 TL for 2006 BMW 545

Ok guys, I have my flame suit on…just in case. I’ve traded my 6 months old TL for the new BMW 545. While I still believe that 3G TL is a very nice car I refrain myself to compare it to 545 as they are from different leagues. It’s true that I paid more money for this one but you get what you pay for.
Just for the record here is why I got rid of my TL:
1. Very annoying rattles.
2. Driveline vibrations.
3. Annoying lack of low end torque.
4. Clumsy automatic transmission.
5. Torque steer under hard acceleration.
6. Cheap paint.
I am sure that once Acura will address and solve all the above the TL will be the brightest bulb in the tree.
In the meantime good luck to all of you and…do not try to race me out there!

Two totally different leagues, my question, if you could afford the 5 series to begin with, why did you even consider the TL. I figure you'd be into the Lexus GS, Infiniti M35, Acura RL, or the MB E class.

the 5 Series is a good car, but it was on Consumer Reports worst luxury car lists, mainly due to electrical problems. Good luck with it.

Yes, if its anything like other modern German cars, you will have a crap load
of problems with it.

They make wonderful cars, but can not seem to make them well, mostly
problems with the parts suppliers, maybe they moved to East Germany?

I like the 5 series, the older ones and the new ones, the older ones from
a few years ago look best to me, my wife loves the look of the new 5 series...

But she said most BMW drivers drive like ass holes, likely because all the other
cars just seem to go so damn slow!

Shortly after she told me that a BMW went from the left lane
across 3 lanes of traffic cutting right in front of me and got off at an exit.

Yep, BMW drivers....

Nice..... I really like it after driving it at the bmw ultimate drive... everything was solid, seat was really comfortable, smooth v8 power, great handling, and I love that speedo that's projected onto the windshield, very convenient.

how much was the price tag?

I'd have probably gone the direction of a leftover 05 Lexus GS430 or maybe the new 06 for less $$$$ AND MUCH better quality.

My mom has a 545, my brother a 6mt g35 coupe - and ive driven both. The 545 is faster, quieter, and roomier - nuff said. Its a big car though, and obviously more expensive, but bmw v8s aren't cheap.

that being said, both cars shit on the TL (all generations, including my '97).

Cool

If you can afford a price jump to the BMW 5 series froma TL I dunno why you bought the TL? If you have the money then you should look at the RL, GS, Mercs ... its clear you made a poor choice in the first instance.

I like the TL because you get lots of bang for your buck. BMW is better quality most probably but still likely to have its own problems which will irk you more cos you paid more for the car.

since when was it required for tl owners to only be able to afford a $35k car? my boss switches between a 750 and a prelude, and hes perfectly content.

if he ever made a bad decision in the first instance with buying the TL its not buying a car cheaper than he could afford, its not being prepared to handle the TLs problems.

That is a sweet upgrade, nice car, classier looks etc and if anyone flames you for it then they are just jealous.

That being said no one upgrades 25K more just because of rattles and vibrations...so like everyone else here wondering, what were you thinking buying a TL in the first place if you had the money to afford a 545...unless you won a lottery or something in the last 6 months

are you kidding me ? what do you mean by swith...switch as in he has a 750 and a prelude in the house and he drives them both alternatingly or swich as in sell the 750 and buy a Prelude? if the later is true then that is the most bizzare thing I have heard all year.

I personally don't understand why people feel the need to start a thread to gloat about how they traded what they perceived as a POS TL for a different car. Go post on a BMW, Lexus, or Infiniti board if you want to rub it in. This forum is for people who like the TL.

Out of loyalty for this great forum I wanted to share this with you. Albeit there were a few things I didn't like about TL I still believe that Acura engineers did a wonderful job putting this car together for us.

As a matter of fact with good snow tires 545 does very good in the snow.

no flames from me. i actually considered that car while i was looking for a new one. but $20K more than the TL i couldn't handle unless i train myself not to eat everyday plus with my commute and the price to service bimmers, i thought it would be a better move for me.

good luck and congrats with the new toy

actually what impressed me with BMW is the service you get from their staff. besides that, they will actually pick up your car, drive it to their service center, do any necessary maintenace/service and take it back to where you are washed and vacuumed

Acura provides the same service, at least in the Milwaukee area.

Sorry to see you go man, but either way youre crusin away in a sweet ride. They say German Steel isnt what it used to be, so I hope for your sake that everything maintains.

In either light, the door is always open for you to return home, because once you go Ac, you never go back!

This I'll comment on:
Brake Pads....sure
Brake Rotors....sure
Engine Belts....as if any will wear out within 50K
Oil Changes...ummm how does 15,000 mi. service interval sound to you with a GrpIII oil (worse than M1)
Wiper Blades...sure
Inspections....inspect my ass

Forgot to add:
Brake Fluid every 2 years....
Coolant every 4 years....

Lifetime ATF and Rear Differential Fluid.....

Nice rig, i love 5 series, the new "bangle look" has grown on me a bit, but the previous generation was incredible, I would saving buying a New 545 and get a used M5 for about $20000 less

Nice upgrade. The BMW 545 is one hell of a ride.

I just came from a Honda S2000 and passed up on an excellent deal for a rattle-free 2003 BMW M3 for an 05 TL that doesn't do it for me. I am also in the market for a high performance BMW.

Enjoy!!!

Haha no shit its faster. The 545 has much more hp and torque. PLus the G is so heavy, the 5 isnt much heavier. But the big difference... V8 vs. V6. I would take the 5 over the G. Nice car collection u have there, man. Oh bt the way (this is for the guy who started the thread), why didnt u wait and get the 550 that is supposed to come out soon. At least that is what a guy at the dealership told me. yeah the interior on the 5 sucks ass. I have the 530i.

He obviously has money and dont want to mess with an used car. I would much rather get the M5 because of the power and looks but then again if i had the money, i would get the 550 that is coming out later this year (confirmed on the bmw forum site)

Very nice ride. 545i is around 60k USD isn't it?? Is much nicer than the M3. I mean he didn't really buy the car for speed. DID YOU NIKKO?? If speed is the case he could have gotten a already fixed up 98 Supra TT and take everyone to school. When it comes to Luxury 5 series is pretty nice. With the money though I would've just kept the TL and save up the money till I can afford a S55 AMG, NOW THAT'S MY LUXURY CAR. But that's just me.
