I've traded my 2005 TL for 2006 BMW 545

With the money though I would've just kept the TL and save up the money till I can afford a S55 AMG, NOW THAT'S MY LUXURY CAR. But that's just me.
Agree with you there. Sock that extra 20k trading on the OTCB and get the true playas car. S55 AMG hands down. Most beautiful sedan I have ever seen.

Congrats on the new car. The 545 is a nice car. A huge upgrade in status and power. I'm one of the (apparently very few) who really likes the new Bangle styling. But....
BMW quality is for crap. As was mentioned before the 5 series was listed as one of the worst luxury cars. When I got my TL in April '04 the woman living next to me got a new 5. They've had to haul it away on a flatbed 4 times already. Sure, I've had two problems with my TL. But both times I drove it in under its own power. I'd have a BMW as a third car. If it was my only tranportation I'd be worried.

BMW quality is better than the acura for quality. What the original poster said was true the acura has annoying problems. As for acura fixing them all, well ... that would make the car cost about 4000 more and it would no longer offer the most attractive price point.

I have two work colleagues that own a 2001 BMW 530i and 2002 BMW 540i and never had any problems with their cars.
So it's a matter of luck, I guess...

Depends on who you talk to, ask any BMW owner who had the BMW 2.5L/3L straight six plastic water pump impeller disintergrate and they'll probably disagree with you on that.

Ok so no car is perfect ... every car has their issues and consumers have to comprimise. Agreed TL is a luxury car for sensible money conscience buyers. 5 Series with the same features costs twice as much. So there is no comparision really. You pay more you get more.
Nikko, we appriciate your comments on the defects of the acura TL and I'm sure there are plenty of to-be acura TL owner which have found the information more than useful, enjoy your car ... now shooo! .... go to the BMW forum
BTW ... phonebook synch over bluetooth sounds Fab-O!

This sort of thread- i.e. discussing relative merits of BMW vs. Acura is more properly placed here: https://acurazine.com/forums/car-talk-5/ in Car Talk.

Congrats on the 545!!
As shoddy built the TL has been since 1999, barely improving with the new version, We should NEVER bring out the negative aspect of any other cars reliablity. HE GOT THE 545 B/C the TL QUALITY SUCKED!!!
I'd rather a German 545, where reliability issues are expected, instead of buying a Japanese TL, thinking its Japanese, finding out its built here and the quality is just as bad as the Germans.
Please post pics of the new 5!!!

However, as I stated before, TL was and will be a very nice car, I personally had fun driving it but I felt it was time to move on.
Before 545 I toyed with idea of getting RL but for some reason it didn't appeal to me, I felt the need of getting a very muscular yet luxurious car.... so I ended up getting 545.

For what it's worth, I did something similar several years ago. I bought a 2000 TL with nav and kept for a little under a year before trading it for a loaded 2001 GS430. In the span of that year, my company's stock had a nice rise and I had the resources on hand to do so, similar to him getting a nice raise in the period since he bought the TL.
I've rarely been happier with one of my decisions. The TL was a very nice car (however, quite inferior to the 3G TL, IMO), but I was annoyed by many things about it (rattles, squeaks, interior materials that wore much more quickly than expected, etc.) after just the first six months. With the GS, I built out what was basically my dream car (added all of the non-cosmetic L-Tuned parts) and loved it for almost five years (I've since sold it and picked up an Audi S4 6MT).
Yeah, I probably took a non-negligible financial hit by trading the TL after less than a year for another new car, but it made me very happy for several years after so I was investing in my enjoyment. I say if you can do it and it's what you want to do, go for it...
Enjoy the 545i.

Very intresting, not to bash my beloved TL or a dream 5 Series, but JD Powers came up with different conclusions... Wonder what is the truth??

I've had about 3 different Benz's...and was normally in the service department about every two weeks....usually some electrical problem...I'm not fond of the BMW's instrumentation...they hardly ever change...those little buttons to push..and where did the good designers go? You can't beat the RIDE on a Benz....the TL could learn alot from them on the ride...But as far as instrumentation, Navigation, the TL shines. Almost bought the Infinity G35....(sharp outside design..but hey I'm INSIDE!.....AND gadgets are my thing....and no one can touch the TL on that...oh yeah..the TL could have a button that keeps the warm air circulating 30 minutes after you leave the car...like the Benz....that was a sweet feature...
