I've been meaning to post this for a while!!
Given the nature of this subforum, Azine and most other auto enthusiast forums, a good number of us (myself included) have a need for speed. However, this need HAS TO BE taken in moderation.
This past Spring, my son was involved in a VERY serious accident in which he was a passenger of a car being driven EXTREMELY fast on a residential street.
To make a long story short, the driver lost control of the car, struck two parked cars, a utility pole, flipped onto its roof and then burst into flames.
And here's the result of said incident:

...and yes! It was a 2007 BMW M5!!
LINK
By the GRACE OF GOD (and that only) the driver and two rear seat passengers escaped injury and my son (front seat passenger) was only bruised up with a slight vertebral fracture.
Folks! There's nothing wrong with getting your groove on when it comes to speed. Just pick your spots W I S E L Y!!

Fast and furious. The hot-looking M5 now turn cold
. I know sometimes it's hard to calm the racing blood down ( me too
). The money cost for the car turns into a lesson.

While I completely agree with the OP & that a higher power must have been watching over the passengers in the wreck, everyone escaping with such minor injuries in a wreck like that continues to show the amazing safety of a BMW.
There's a time and a place for driving excessively fast or racing. That would be the track or strip. Race tracks are smooth and tend to be free of obstacles and obstructions. Additionally, you don't go exploring the limits of a car unless you've lapped the particular area a few times. People are so dumb.

If I were in your position I'd be raising all hell on the driver.
Racing on the street in any situation IMO is unnecessarily dangerous. Racing with three passengers should be a criminal offense

I don't believe he was racing....rather exercising the M5's ability while putting his passengers (and the general public) at risk.
AMAU6..that driver is 20 y/o and was NOT the owner. The owner (of course) was none too pleased with what happened to his then new acquisition. Word has it he's since moved on to an E55 AMG.

that's really something. crazy that the roof didn't collapse. i saw a 750il a while back that was toast. looked like the guy had been drinking and driving; the debris from the accident streched across 5 lanes (essentially the entire freeway). i didn't see the accident itself, but the aftermath. the roof on the 7 series collapsed and the entire body looked like it had been clipped right in the middle (was bent like an "L"). i took a peak inside the car as i was driving by, and saw fire and rescue pulling over, what appeared to be the deceased driver.
Or something like this.
