Intake Install

Just took delivery of my intake and I want to install it myself. Only problem is that you have to take the front bumper off. Anyone install without removing the bumper??? How?? Or, anyone have instructions on bumper removal??

Thanks

Just run it into a pole or something...that should work.

How much did your performance shop (the one who installed your springs) quote you to do it? Just curious.

Before we knew about the front bumper thing it was gonna be about $75, now between $100-125 depending on labor time

Just did the install today. Bumper must come off. The intake tube must be inserted from underneath. No way around it.

JTG - Does the AEM kit require the bumper to be removed? What about servicing the filter on the Injen? I think I might be able to replace or clean the filter by removing it through the wheel well. Will that work?

Once the actual install is complete, the servicing part can be done from the wheel weel if you pull the tire off or if you jack the car up and remove the 4 clips on the bottom, and pull the plastic back, you can reach the filter ,as long as you positioned the screw to be reachable by screw driver

If the bumper has to come off I'm not going to bother installing my CAI. The tiny amount of HP isn't worth the noise or trouble.

The instructions were not as detailed as I had hoped. It says "remove the bumper". That's it So it took me a while to figure it all out. I started at 9:00 am and finished at around noon. It was a tougher job than I expected. With the experience I have now, I imagine I could do it in at least 1 hr less. Hope this helps.

Glad to hear that it is not an all day job....are you happy with the results? Lots of added noise?

Theres several clips on the top and bottom of the bumper that need to be remvoed for the install. The instructions have been modified from what i have been told to be a little more specific..

Good luck with the installations...
The finish product is well worth all the time and effort once its complete.

The instructions provided with the intake did not detail bumper removal at all (unfortunately). I apreciate the encouragement and look forward to the results.

Not installed yet, but I know it adds a peak of about 11 hp to the wheels (at about 4500 RPM)...of course this is in ideal test conditions

There is one phillips head screw on each side that is well hidden. Inside the wheel well, at the top of the bumper. Pull back the wheel well to get to it. The only clips on the top are under the hood. Gotta remove a peice of plastic to get to them first. Other than under the hood and in the wheel well, the top just snaps off/on. That was the frustrating part. The snap together part by the head lights makes you think there are more clips or bolts. There aren't. Just gotta wiggle the thing lose. Good luck.

BTW - I like the way it sounds and the extra power is noticeable and nice.

LOL - good point. Problem is I am 39 (so is she) and we've been together since we were 17. I wouldn't know how to find a new wife. Might be fun trying though

Okay guys, this might be a stupid question, but when they dyno a car and take hp and torque readings at the wheels through the rpm range, is this all done in first gear??????
