INT LIGHT MOD - Connected to Domes
INT LIGHT MOD - Connected to Domes
I added the footwell lights described in this thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=98980
I wired it so that the new lights are connected to the dome lights such that when the domes are on (by pressing the button or opening the door) the footwell lights are too. This works nicely, and i am going to add a switch this weekend so the footwells will also come on independently. This is very simple to do and i will only describe how to connect to the domes (as most of this work has been described in other mods). The pics i took arent great (camera phone) and i dont have any way of hosting them.
1) remove the upper console
with the dome lights out i pulled (the edge towards the rear of the car) the black piece downward and it popped out, then it slides toward you completely out. Remove the two wiring connections by pressing on the releases on top and pulling to disconnect.
2) Their are 4 screws that hold a plastic cover on, remove these and the cover and you should see the circuit board.
3) Solder a connection to the inside terminals of each dome bulb (this is the ground connection and is the leg that is switched/dimmed). Make note of which wire goes to which side of the car so your domes and footwell light match.
4)Run the 2 wires between the headliner and windshield, then behind the pillar, eventually down towards the fuse box. You can pop the pillar cover of by gently prying the small airbag panel out and pulling. it will come of, be gentle but dont be scared to pull. there are pics here: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...light=hardwire
I used a coat hanger bent into a loop to pull the wire through the dash to the footwell, and used it again to pull the wires from one footwell to the other.
5)I used an add a circuit in the terminal for the interior lights in the fusebox for the +12 volt power. An alternative is to run a 3rd wire from a +12 volt source in the overhead console (not sure which wires, but soldering to the other dome light leg on the outside of either will work). you can use this power sourcce for both lights, connect to either side of the bulb (doesnt matter) or buy a 194 bulb holder at your auto store and connect to that.
6) now connect the correct bulb to the correct ground wire from the dome light (passenger/driver side)and place your bulbs where you want and your done.
now im guessing their are questions

first of all this is awesome! ive been waiting for this forever.
question....
"3) Solder a connection to the inside terminals of each dome bulb (this is the ground connection and is the leg that is switched/dimmed). Make note of which wire goes to which side of the car so your domes and footwell light match."
where is the connection and what does it look like for each dome bulb?
is there a way for us to do it if we tap it into the wire feeding to the circuit or soldering it to the circuit is what makes it dim and follow the dome bulbs?

the bulb holder/socket is a black rectangular piece on the edge of the circuit board, once the cover is off you cant miss it. the terminals are large metal blades soldered to the board, once again theyre hard to miss just use the interior blade on each socket.
as far as tapping a wire, i checked with a multimeter the incoming pins and there seems to be no way to tap a wire do to all switching and dimming functions being performed on the circuit board locally, thus the only way to get similar behavior to the domes is to directly connect to them

How do you run the wires from driver's side footwell to the passenger side footwell. I dont want to go all the way throughthe apillar on the other side of the car to light up the passenger footwell. Basically how do i get through the center console, remove those covers/flaps, etc......
THanks in advance

in between the gas pedal and seat theres a carpet flap, same on both sides, with plenty of slack to stick a coat hanger or something riigid through and connect to the wire then pull through the console to the passenger side
