Insurance

Hi,

Is insurance on this car very expensive? If it's too high, I may have to reconsider the TL. I'm 21 and I have a few speeding tickets (3, maybe 4). I'm hoping I'll be in the $3-4k/yr range, but my dad thinks it could be more like 7 or 8 thou. What do you guys think? Should I just call every insurance company in the book and see who gives the best deal? Is there no easier way? Also, what kind of info will they want from me to determine the cost? And are there any courses(safe driving?) you can take to lower your insurance? Sorry for all the questions. And Thanks for any insight you can shed

That's a lot for insurance. I would shop around to all the comapanies before deciding.

Insurance on the TL was cheaper with my insurance than on the TSX. Probably fewer 20-somethings with 3-4 speeding tickets driving the TL

Seriously at your age and driving record insurance is going to be expensive pretty much no matter what.

My insurance went up about 100/year over my old Maxima, so it seems pretty reasonable to me.

My insurance increased $20/6 mos. over the 2002 TL. You are going to be lucky to get insurance at all with your age and record, you'll definitely have to shop around.

Some Insurance companies might refuse you being that your 21 AND have a few tickets. Ask each Insurance company about a safe driving course, if that would help "get your foot in the door".

Try slowing down too. That alone will save you a lot of money beginning 2-3 years from now.

21 y/o 3 or 4 tickets....

Just my $.02, but you may want to consider other forms of transportation, ie: Bus, Bicycle... The new TL may contribute to your need for speed and buy you more tickets not less! Good luck finding inexpensive insurance though.

Not at all. My '04 TL costs about 2/3 as much to insure as my '03 Cobra did. I guess there aren't as many young whippersnappers getting speeding tickets and having accidents in TLs as there are in Mustangs.

Instead of buying a bus pass, why don't I just buy a V1 for the TL? That should reduce the number of tickets I get!

Seriously though, it sounds like I might not even get insurance?! Are you kidding me? It's not like I'm a danger to other drivers or anything! I've got a couple of photo radar tix, and a couple times I've been pulled over by a ghost car. That's all probably 2-3 years ago. I was expecting a worst case scenario of like $500-600/mo for insurance, but maybe there's no TL in my future at all I'm gonna have to do some serious searching I guess...

I feel bad for ya, with today`s insurance rates, younger people get screwed even with no tixs. on their records. Just brace youself if and when you find a company, those rates will be high, just shop around!

The insurance for a 2004 TL was about $100yr less then my 1997 Integra.
The insurance rate also have to do with the theft rate of the car.
So, to insure an older and slower 2dr Acura would be more then a 4dr and MUCH fast Acura. Hehe

I do feel sorry for the people in their 20's.
They are screw no matter how clean their record is.

Finally. A benefit to being old and conservative. I expect my TL insurance to be no more than for my S4 or S2000...that is maybe about $475 to $500 per year (12 months). We will see.

The answer is easy - Call your insurance agent and tell them that you want a TL, and ask what the rate will be.

My insurance went up only about $60/year over my Solara, but I have a perfect driving record.

Things that lower my insurance (and yours too):

- Age (> 30)
- No tickets, ever (neven been caught!)
- No claims
- Multiple policies (house + 3 cars)
- Car Pooling every other day (let your insurance agent know!)
(my friend drives a BMW 330Ci convertible - he likes my 04 TL better!)
- Extra Alarm (besides stock)
- Antilock brakes
- 4 Doors (with sets in the back)
- Safety Driving course (even if you have no ticket)
- No teenagers a the house (boys are only 3 & 6)
- Live in Houston, cheaper than Miami or other cities.

My 00TL insurance was $105 /mo
04TL insurance is $135/mo

shop around, there are good deals out there...

Hey Gordon I work for Survival insurance and I can tell you that your driving record aint that bad. I have seen worse and just to let you know you will probably pay 4k per yr. Depending on weather you want towing and rental and all that other good stuff.

That'll be the terrific numbers wherever you're.

Depend on where you're living and those factors as NOX 3.2 said, it's hard to compare everyone's rate in this board.

For example, I may pay more than some of you guys, (perhaps, lower than some of you). Agents said in NYC, NJ, and D.C. are highly "criminal" area, so I got about $2k per year for the insurance of $300k bodily injury with $50k property damage. I just cleared my tickets months ago.
