Installing License plate lights
Guys, I just got some leds for the rear license plate. I was able to take off the trunk panel no problem. But how do you remove them from the trunk? I see the connectors on them, but I don't really know how to remove the plastic piece that is holding the bulbs. I tried jiggling it and move left or right, but won't budge. Does it pop off through the trunk or outside the license plate? It must be something really easy, but it was getting dark, so I had to stop what I am doing.
I'm the friend. I installed 1 watt super white LED's for the license plate. That plastic housing holding the bulbs just clips in there. Drigo is correct in saying you have to squeeze the grey house and pull to one side and down. They are a little hard to come out but they will. When installing them, put one diamond side in and snap the other side.
The hardest part for me was removing the old bulbs. Man they were in there tight. Had to use some small needle nose pliers to remove them. Just be careful not to break them. The new LED's were tough to push in also, but when they do go in they are very tight. I like that. Perhaps they won't get loose and flicker out like they did in my old TSX. Good luck with the install. The super white look sweet. My friend up above (Drigo) may post pics, hint hint.........

Thanks guys, I will try these tomorrow when I have some daylight. The tape idea is great, I have use that to take out the bulbs for the dome lights. Now it is down to the license plate and my led conversion will be complete.
FWIW - I use the flat head screwdriver method. Push one side of the tab in (not too hard) and wiggle/pull till it pops out.
BTW - undo the wire connector first and reconnect it last. That way you have to deal with the bulb housing.

I was able to get them out yesterday. Replacing the two bulbs for the license plate should be easy, but it was actually tougher than the other bulbs that I replaced. Had to pull off the trunk panel, unplug the connector, loosen the gray housing, use the flathead screwdriver to open the clear cover and use the tape method to take out the bulbs. After I install the leds, everything was so worth it.
Thank you for everyone's advice, one more reason why I am on this board everyday.

IMHO, it's easier to just take the gray socket housing out, replace the bulbs and then pop the socket housing back in.
BTW - if the bulbs fit, but are long, getting that housing back in is a MAJOR PITA. Shorter bulbs = MUCH easier.

Bearcat94, you are absolutely right. I disconnected the plug and took the whole housing out. It was just too difficult working on them while they are still on the car. And it was a bitch to put them back, but being patient really pay off at the end.
