Install Failed? HID Bulb Replacement....

Ok guys, so I was getting my car repair for bumper issue, and I had the headlights shipped off for angel eyes and custom paint. I installed the replacement bulb from Kaixen 8500k and when I turned it on everything works. All my LED works, i like the fast blinking from the switchback. But the reg beam dont work. It turns blue but gives no light. Did i install it wrong? Not enough power maybe? Any clues? Thanks.

thats what you get for using an 8500k light, go back to stock, and you'll have usable light

Hmmm OK difference of opinions here but......

I run 8000K lights. Granted less output but I have good eyes, I love em. Never blown a ballast over a replacement bulb either. Bad luck for you I guess.

xoulu something else is wrong here hardware related.

You think things are bad now? Try driving in rain/poor weather with those damn things. Installing anything beyond OEM spec HID bulbs negates the whole idea of having HIDs in your car. To give you an example how poor these things are, a standard BNIB OEM HID bulb such as Phillips 85122+ is rated at 3400 lumens, Osram D2S (standard on 3GTL) is rated at 3400 lumens (both are at 4300k color). Compare these numbers to Phillips Ultinon 6000k which is 2400 Lumens, GE is 2200 Lumens, any one of those aftermarket higher K bulbs are around 2000, a standard halogen is rated at 1400 lumens. So you might as well put some halogen blue bulbs in your headlights.

Granted its a personal choice but driving around with headlights that look like they just chocked on papa smurf is not going to do any good. Be more worried about what you see at night rather than what the on coming traffic does.

id like to see some pics of the phillips 6500K

i had kaixen 8500k, within 2 weeks, one bulb turned green.. i am currently awaiting my replacements from Kaixen. they did offer to send me a new pair without any hassle....

the light output decrease was definitely there, but it wasnt HORRIBLE... still, not as good as OEM 4300K, but i love the look

do neither of your headlights work?? if so, i doubt TWO bulbs were defective, you might not have plugged the ballast power harness back in. if thats the case, it shouldnt power up at all, but i would check your connections anyways, there should be 4 wire harnesses plugged into your each of your headlights

If you really want to upgrade your stock lighting then just upgrade to Phillips 85122+ D2S bulbs. They are not smurf colored but are indeed brighter than the stock Osrams.

Just wondering if you have these Phillips 85122+D2S bulbs on your car? They are 5000k so must be a bit whiter than the OEM 4300k correct?

85122+ are not 5000k, 85122CM (ColorMatched) are 5000k. 85122+ are rated at 4200k and 3400 lumens, compare that figure to a brand new Osram Xenarc bulb (thats what you have in your TL from factory) which is rated at 4300k and 3200 lumens. Since your bulb is nearing its death I'd say its producing around 2400 lumens or may be even less. The thing with 85122+ is that they dont loose their intensity over their life i.e. they dont color shift.

You saw my recent post of one of my pink eye HID; therefore, I will be replacing them with after mkt HID bulb. If I do buy the Phillips I might look into the 5000k colormatched since I want something whiter than OEM. Have you seen any pics of the 5000k philllips? If so, they should be whiter than OEM correct? Thx!

Its alright bud, I have been there myself as well when I was more worried about what on coming traffic sees coming out of my cars headlights rather than how good I see at night myself. As I said earlier, putting a higher kelvin bulb in your HID headlights negates the whole idea of having HIDs in the first place.

I am not sure what is the built quality and specs are on the Kaixen HIDs but I can bet you this that they are not as good as products by GE, Phillips or Osrams.

To people who believe in color here are few spec sheets to show you how bad the numbers are when you go higher in color. Pay close attention to the number of lumens, thats the light intensity.

BTW just for references a standard halogen bulb produces 1100~1400 lumens.
