Question Injen Cold Air Intake For 04tl

Hey guys..

Im new to this forum and have some questions. I searched through many of the threads and couldn't find any info on the Injen CAI Racing for the 04TL.

I see that at least one forum member has the Injen CAI. I would like to know the following:

(1) How much did you guys pay?

(2) How difficult was the install...did you DIY?

(3) How is the sound? Is it really loud? I don't want it to be too loud, but it would be nice if it is about the sound of the DINAN CAI on BMW 3 series E46 that I had.

(4) Where did you get it? I see that the eStore on this site offers it...anyone purchase from this site?

(5) Only one of four authorized Injen online retailers had it available to order, but it carried like a 1-2 week lead time cuz it was temporarily out of stock.

(6) Any pros and cons of the polished VS the powder coat black?

THANKS ALOT FOR ANY INFO!!!!
Have had this car for a month and really wanting to get started modding.

List of future mods:
(1) Injen CAI
(2) Comptech Springs
(3) A-SPEC Body Kit
(4) 19" rims/tires
(5) Getting rid of the amber lenses on the front end

I paid $52+tax for the heat shield, and $256+tax for the intake. Freight was included. I got it off Ebay vendor "Power Garage". The CAI was in stock but the heat shield wasn't. They typically have the CAI in stock. I did the install myself but you do need to remove the bumper cover, however a search of this site will give you a link to removal instructions. There is a bit of intake roar with it that I don't like...some here do but I don't. I like the polished 'cause I have a black car and I like the contrast of the bling and the black. But it get's dirty and needs to be cleaned if you show it to people often. Powder coat is more durable and won't show finger/hand prints and dirt nearly as easy.

Thanks....

Is the heat shield really necessary?

i am not a mechanic by any means, but can handle tools etc, assemble things well. Is this a difficult DIY?

Could you point me to the install instructions or the bumper removal?

Do you think there would be any sound difference between the polished and powder coat black? My bud and I both had weapon r intakes on our previous Acura's and he had the polish and I had carbon fiber. His was alot louder with the polished.....!?!

THANKS ALOT!!!

Allright...I, too have the Injen. I did install it myself, with a friend that had some basic knowledge of engine bolt ons. As is noted above, the bumper was a bit of a pain, but some of the stock components were a paint to take apart also. All in all, only took 2 hours for install start to finish, which seems pretty good to me.

As for sound, I acutally like the sound a lot. The car stays as quiet as stock for the most part (there is a slight whistle as with all CAI). The engine gets a great throaty sound when you stomp of the gas and begin to get into the 4000 RPM range. Not sure about the sound difference, but I have the black. I can understand the Weapon intakes sounding different as they were made of completely different materials. I decided on the black because I think it goes well with the rest of the engine. I previously pulled off all of the plastic covers, which I think makes the engine bay look fantastic. Since everything is now exposed, I thought the black was the way to go.

As far as price, I ordered it through a shop that has helped me with lots of different items and paid $215 including tax and shipping.

The metal intake will transfer vibration outside better...those vibrations can be heard at certain freqs as sound. As for the heat shield, no it's not necessary and it's not a difficult DIY.

Here is the TIF for bumper removal. Note that it's a multi-page TIF. The first page is of I think a seat removal. In your TIF viewer there should be an option to go through the pages. Like in XP Picture Preview...in the bottom middle is the page numbers. But some "in-browser" TIF viewers like Quicktime will only show you the first page. You need to right click and Save As, then open the TIF using a different picture viewer.

the Injen intake is a great performance mod for only 200 bucks. There are a few otehrs out there right now, but the injen is currently the best one thats currently available.

Since you're the only one I've ever seen who has ACTUALLY run both the AEM and Injen, in your opinion is the AEM; 1 worth the extra money I assume it costs, 2 worth the wait?

The AEM produces alittle more torque throughout the RPM cuve, opposed to the Injen that loses some at the bottom end, if you look at teh dyno tests from injen.

Personally, they are both great intakes, but the AEM is designed and tested more thoroughly before sent to production, so in a sense, its a better product, and yes its more money as well.

But is it worth it (the wait and extra $$$)? Is the difference big enough to justify the extra $$$ and wait?

OK THANKS!!

Do you have the other pages referenced on the FRONT BUMPER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION?

They refer to REMOVING THE FRONT BULKHEAD COVER (PG 20-130)

&

THE FRONT STRAKES (PG 20-141)

In want to make sure I have everything before I start the project. Anyone recommend who I should order thru?

AJUSA has emailed me back saying they have in stock and ready to ship for $264 BLACK & $256 POLISHED - shipping included.

Autocarparts (link from this site) shows them in stock for $235.08 in the polished - shipping included.

But, AJUSA is located in San Diego so sending via ground freight will get it here to Vegas faster.

THANKS FOR EvERYONE'S HELP!?! Anyone in Vegas wanna help me install it LOL!!!??!

LOL..i just gotta laugh with the Vegas stereotypes. Everyone wants to know how far from the strip i live LOL! i know u r just asking and didn't mean anything by it, but it cracks me up. most ppl think everywhere u live there is a casino in your backyard!!

I live in Summerlin, dont know if you've heard of it. U prolly have if u come to Vegas alot as it and Green Valley are the two places to live here as far as luxury goes. Anyhow, you take the 215W right before you to up to the Mandalay Bay off the 15N, and I am west about 15 miles from the strip. My home is just before the entrance of Red Rock Canyon at Charleston/215.

Cool..

if you keep taking cheyenne almost til at ends (near Lone Mountain), and get on the 215 (turn Left), my house is between Far Hills & Charleston right off the 215, West of the 215, in the Vistas of Summerlin.

Your grandparents must live in NorthShores area!

I used to live in Vegas, worked for the Las Vegas Valley Water District. Summerlin is a great place to live, but I actually prefer Green Valley. I don't miss it though, the hot winds blow all the time. However, I do miss running the Fountain Fever on Lake Mead!!!

Cool...hate to tell you but Riverside ain't really any cooler LOL!!! Vegas is becoming a mini- so cal with home pricing. u cant find ANY home in Summerlin cheaper than 350K, new or resale. Most in my section of summerlin are 500-800K. This is why we moved from Cali....not looking so good now. I'm from Newport Beach.

Good luck to u in Riverside...
