Important: For Anyone Who Blacked Out Their Headlights's Housing

I cleared and blacked out (the housing part only) my headlights about couple weeks ago. My gf told me how come my headlights were not as bright as they used to be. I told her that I just adjusted my headlights a bit lower because I did adjusted a bit higher when I just got the car.
Yesterday was dark and raining and I started to realize that my headlights were not bright at all. As I remember (I hardly drive the car), I used to be able to see a sharp cut-off on both side when I passed tall objects, such as walls, houses, trees, etc.
Does anyone experience the same problem? I'm going to try to play around with my headlights sometimes this week tho. Is it because dark color absorb heat/light? and my black housing absorb my HID lights?
I guess I'm ready to be flamed.

you must have taken the headlight apart when you blacked out the lights. was the bulb moved in anyway? if it is out of position the projector might not direct all the light properly. There is a shield in there that actually creates that cutoff. if the bulb is not positioned correctly that shield might actually be blocking the light. i doubt that the housing(although black does absorb light) makes that big a difference because its the projector that throws the light out.

I did take all the bulbs out to be safe. I still see the cut off but the cut off is fairly week, not as sharp as it used to be. Do you think using semi gloss black instead of gloss black may produce this problem?

I did the conversion this weekend and painting the chrome pieces black won't change the color, intensity or cut off of the HIDs. I actually didn't remove the HIDs when I baked my headlights. I left everything on there. I figured it was only 200 degrees so that's not too bad. Everything seems to be working just fine now that I've put it all back together. I've painted most of the chrome pieces black and it looks awesome. I'll have a full write-up and pics soon.

I know it has been a while, but here is my pictures:

My friend, who has IS300, just dropped by this past weekend. IMO, his headlights is much brighter than me. What do you guys think? Any comments?
I'm ready to be flamed.

I dont think painting the blinker reflectors will affect the headlights, due to the fact that the hid's are in projectors which is a self contained unit. It doesnt need the rest of the headlgiht housing chrome to make it brighter. Try adjusting the height of the headlight, maybe you have it aimed lower than the factory setting. Or the bulb might not be sitting correctly in the housing. Also try asking at www.hidplanet.com.

maybe she meant the turn signal? blacking out the reflector will do that, to the turnsignal, but shouldn't do anything to the Headlight... now at the bottom of the projector there is a "reflector" of sorts that mimics beam pattern, that part you did black out, so that could have had some adverse affects.

Problem has been solved, but I did some other mods for the projector. Better coverage on foreground and bluish/purplish cut-off. I'm going to write more details and pictures when I have a time on:

so what was the problem? I have WDP and want to black out my housing too, but if it's gonna make my lights dimmer... screw that...
