Unhappy Im Soooo Frustrated!

2 weeks ago I decided that I wanted to replace my 2nd gen with a 3rd gen. I called my credit union and got approved instantly on the phone so the search began....

I found a DMM 04 40k miles listed for 13,900... called three days in a row and nobody from sales returned my call, finally stopped by on my day off and the car had been sold that morning.

Then I found a Silver 04 42k miles listed for 13,500... called the guy just to find out that a $1000 deposit was put down on the car an hour before I called.

Found a Diamond White 05 53k miles listed for 13,900... called as soon as I noticed the ad, someone left a $1000 deposit on this one too...

Just got off the phone with another lot that had a Diamond White 05 75k miles that had a deposit left on it today...

I dont know what to do... its like Im just not supposed to buy a 3rd gen TL or something lol...

A couple of Acura dealers in my area have been trying to get me in there for the last couple of days but I think I'm going to go with a used car dealer to save 3k-4k on the car. If I get an 04 i'll be purchasing a warranty just to be safe with the trans....

Thats if I ever actually find one....

I know thats what made me decide to stop sitting on my hands and pull the trigger. Prices are dropping across the board since the economy is in the toilet.

When i started looking into TL's I went to Precision Acura in jersey and was about to buy a blue 05 w/ navi and 48k miles for 18000 and i told the salesman ill be back @ 7:00 with the down payment....well 7:00 came and i went to the dealer with $4,000 cash in my pocket and after 20 minutes of BSing with the salesman he told me the car was sold....i'll never go to precision acura again. but you'll find one, patience is key.

Exactly; just remember:
you'll know it is the right TL for you because when you turn it on, it'll return the favor.

seize the moment! if u realli want it, but it ASAP! or else someone else will, someone who wants it more badly than u. who cares how much u paid for the TL, u got what u wanted and thats all that matters. and since the 09 model is out, u realli cant be picky what u see is what u get, theres no more customized orders for the 3rd gen. there are ppl who have so much money they buy thing without looking at the price tag, clothes, food, cars.

i do believe in "good things come to those who wait." but dont forget about "u snooze, u lose!"

That was 19 minutes too long. You make friends at the bar, not at the car dealer. I come in, if you have what I'm looking for, let's talk business. If not, I'm out. I'm not into people wasting my time.

Yeah. I pretty much dont trust anyone in the sales department at an Dealership.... this guy keeps promising me that he can get me an 06 with Nav for the same price that I was gonna get a 04 non nav, all he wanted to do was get me into the dealership because once I drove there he apologized to me telling me that he didnt realize that the car was being sold while we were having the conversation...

I just got a call about an 05 Diamond White Pearl non nav, but it has 76k miles, Im looking for around 50k and the last 3 that I missed out on were around that range so Im pretty sure there will be more popping up soon.

yea keep on looking... also, a deposit doesn't necessarily mean it will be sold. They could just have someone put money down while they "think about it". That basically means it's sold but you never know.

You may pay more at an Acura dealer, but if it is a CPO car it will come with a power train warranty 7 years 100K, and a 12mo 12K bumper to bumper warranty. The warranty from a used car dealer will be quite expensive and not afford the coverage as above, but the car will definitely be less expensive. I guess you get what you pay for.

Just a couple of examples:
Davis Acura '05 Deep Green Pearl 31593 miles $18988
'05 Rodondo Red 39628 miles $18788

Seems to be about 13 CPO TL's on the Acura site for under 20 grand, but non with Nav.

Yeah I thought he was joking too.... thanks, nothing near me but I appreciate the help that everyone gives on this forum.

The guy with the 05 Diamond White with 75k miles called me again today... I think if I can get him down from $13,900 to around $12,000 I think I may take it.

yeah, those are some low prices you are finding....all the '04-'05 in the 50k mile range, peeps were asking $15k+ here in IL. When i did find one under $15k it was either an auto or was sold. I ended up taking a risk on a rebuilt title car.

Just keep looking and you will find one. Sometimes it takes time. I am surprised that a car that is as high production as a TL is hard to find, though.

What about carmax?

I went to see the DWP with 75k miles... I liked the car but the fact that it has 75k miles and was involved in an accident of some kind in 05 according to carfax made me walk away.

Im starting to think maybe i'll just wait a couple of months. The problem that im having is that I still owe so much on my 01, its hard to trade.

If I can get my car paid off It would make my search pretty much effortless. So Im thinking about putting it up on ebay and seeing what it will sell for, I'll make the reserve somewhere around the payoff so that even if I have to put a few bucks outta pocket to get it paid off so be it.

What Im not sure about is how do you go about selling a car that you dont currently have the title to?

You can have the buyer bring a cashier’s check, go to the bank holding the title, pay it off and receive the title. I would call the lending institution in advance to make certain that the documents will be ready upon your arrival. Also have the bank call the institution that the cashier’s check is drawn on to make certain that the funds are available as there are an abundant number of scammers floating around.

Naturally if someone would wire you the money in advance, which I would never do, you would then be able to have the title ready at pickup time.

Im from Philly area and I bought a WDP TL pretty recently. Did a lot of research too...and Davis Acura had better internet deals than the others I looked at like Montgomeryville, Ardmore, Elite, Metro, Sussman. I ended up buying my car from Davis tho since the other places didn't have WDPs or were asking more for them. Just make sure to check each car's free Carfax from the websites b/c I definitely noticed a number of accident cars being sold as CPO at dealerships. Also look for a good service record listing from dealerships, not too many of those around. If you go to Davis, ask for Fran...he was a really nice guy. Wasn't aholeish like some of the car salesmen out there.

I know this is not what you want to hear but sometimes things happen for a reason. Just stay persistent and keep using those car sales websites (autotrader, ebay, craigslist, and cars). There were two cars I really wanted but I couldn't get the first one to drop low enough and the second one sold. I'm from South Jersey and was spreading my search out to CT and MD. Amazingly enough I bought mine from the closest dealer (Elite in Maple Shade). I was actually trying to avoid them because I thought they would be the most expensive. They don't have the largest selection but if you keep watching they may surprise you. I also had a really good salesman that told me more than most salesman tell you. Stay persistent and you'll find it. It took me six months to get my car. Make sure you contact dealers to have them looking for you and play them against each other. Good Luck!!!

Cool... Thanks.

I got a call from Piazza Acura of Ardmore. He was able to get me approved for financing for an 06 NBP TL with Nav, it all depends on what trade value they'll give me for my car though. I wanna pull the trigger but this one is going to put me right at the top of my price range. I really gotta think it over. I was looking to spend around $325 per month but it looks like this one is gonna put me around $365 per month. Besides I really want a Diamond White, so I gotta think about it. I think they may make it easy for me to say no to this one though because I really wanted to keep it down to around $325. I think I might ask him to keep an eye out for a Diamond White TL around 2k cheaper. Im gonna sleep on it.

why not search for a 06 year? sure it's a bit more dough, but it's definitely "safer"

Don't do it if your not 100% sure. Remember your going to be making these payments for years and you don't want to regret it. I know you want the car but be patient it will come. Piazza contacted me a least once a week so play the game and take your time. Stick with your budget and try not to get tempted to go over. I was patient; easier said than done; and I was able to get it $75 less per month than my starting price point.

Yeah. He's be trying to get me in there for about 2 weeks now. The funny thing is that Im going to go see 2 cars there tomorrow and he's going to look at my car to see "what they'd be willing to give me for it", but I'll be waiting 2 more weeks before I actually make a purchase because Im going to put $2k cash down so that I can get about a $40 drop in my note monthly but that wont be until I get paid. So no matter what he says tomorrow it wont be good enough to get the deal closed unless he can go down more. Hopefully I'll leave and he'll try to counter offer down a little more after a couple of days.

Well I stand corrected... he did say something that made it easier for me to purchase it tomorrow... actually he didnt have to say anything, after I drove this car it was a wrap. I will be paying $30 more than I wanted to per month, but after canceling the PDA package and swithching to a "regular" cell phone instead of my Palm Treo, and taking lunch instead of buying it at work everyday I found a way to get that dream car.

I only need to put 2k down but my fiance just spent the 2k that we had in the acct on wedding bands, so I wont have it again until I get a bonus on the 13th. I dont know if the car will still be there then, if not I'll just hope that they have something else around the same price.

My buddy told me to ask if they would take a postdated check, but I dont know how I feel about that.

IMHO-Not a great way to start off married life with an investment that strains the pocketbook and will only drop in value. I guess it's a different set of priorities that matter most this day and age, keeping up with the Jonses, or maybe even keeping ahead of the Jonses.

I said that Im paying an extra $30 a month.

Strains the pocketbook???

Where did you get that from anything that I said????

and its not about keeping up with anyone, its about making a sound financial decision that puts my family in a better position buy purchasing a newer car with a warranty and replacing a car with 122k miles that anything could happen to anyday.

I hate when people acts like just because our generation is younger, we just make impulse decisions, and dont think about ongoing rationality... in this instance your wrong, I think "everything" through before I make any decision and this time is no different.
