first step, hire a lawyer. been in your shoes...but worse. i got busted for drag racing. wasn't actually drag racing. was in my previous vehicle (an '01 silverado) and a friend of mine was in his new avalanche. we were side by side at a stop light w/ dual left turning lanes. we both goosed the throttle and our tires broke lose and chirped...some cops around the corner heard us and thought we were racing (race to 30 mph i guess). pulled us over gave us drag racing tickets. ouch! ruh-roh raggy. hired a lawyer for $500. he got me a $250 fine, and court sup for 3 months. pre-lawyer, i was facing $200 fine and 1 yr mandatory license suspension. DA would not gonna deal w/ me...but she gladly dealt w/ my lawyer. $750 for spinning my tires. Ouch! Better than $200 and 1 yr w/out my license...plus hike in insurance costs.

 

As a first-timer, an attorney should be able to negotiate this down. Definately worth the expense.
