If you had access to lower mileage Type S parts

Hello guys/gals. My '07 TL/Tech is about to hit the 180k mark and I recently ran into a friend parting out an '08 TL-S with 34k. IF you had the opportunity to swap suspension parts for the sake of NOT spending the cash on new what would you snag? I don't want to get parts that I COULD get better in the aftermarket category, however I am not sure what the life line is on things like wheel bearings, control arms, steering rack, etc... I am just trying to be preventative rather than reactive on my cars maintenance while taking advantage of an oppertunity.

Thanks guys.

Jesse

Uh, nothing really. Second set of wheels if needed, maybe suspension if really clean and cheap, otherwise I'd just sell the TL and buy his.

there's probably nothing useful that you could grab that isnt out there in after market form.

maybe the aluminium interior trim pieces.

but other wise; the 34k mile type-s sounds awesome. like polobunneh said; it would probably more beneficial for you just to buy that type-s with so little miles and have a bad ass car.

fuck swapping shit

Agreed on the buying a TL S however this one is totaled. I already took care of interior pieces from him and the front knees (for the brake swap/upgrade) I just wasn't sure on the rest of the suspension/steering components.

I'd be wary of taking suspension parts if the car's totaled. Like I said, waffle wheels are nice, but other than that there's not much worth it.

ohh its totalled.

nothing mechanical, as i would think safety issues would come into play.

grab all the non-wrecked interior pieces you can.

So basically, nothing.

Thank you gentlemen for your input. At 180K is there anything I can do to stay on top of my car maintenance wise? I have it serviced at the dealer and replace all they suggest as they suggest it, but hate surprises as this girl see about 3500mi a month.

that's probably the hardest thing to do;
Predicting when certain components fail.

cant really predict; until they fail.

Do you think he'll sell me all 8 shock top-hat bushings for cheap? They look like this on the left and there's two in each shock top hat.

#18's installed in place of #6 & #5:

i figured it had to be totaled. why would anyone part out a clean low mileage car for no reason? Depending on where it was hit, taking any drivetrain parts could be risky.
