Nissan Maxima (and pray every day that it did not break down and curse the three year warranty) or the Accord, and check my driving soul at the door.
No Infiniti dealers in town, so the G35 was out. Hated the the Lexus ES (a car for my father, not me), and the IS was too small, the car seat did not fit.
Mazda6 was not too bad either.

I'm looking at the TL as well as the RX-8. I know they are two complete different cars, but I have always liked the RX-7s and I love the way the 8 drives. I guess it'll come down to practicality and comfort versus the feel of a great sports car.

I would have kept my 2002 TL-P and just put Comptech headers and exhaust on it to go along with the Comptech springs it already had.
Or I would have looked at a 330xi.

The CTS, especially now that it is up to 255 from 220.
The S60 was in the running till I had one as my loaner today, it's small.
The Accord Coupe was next in line.
Don't like the fronts of the G's so they were out.
Complain about gas prices now ?? Afford gas for most bmw's where mileage is their last concern. Performance first.
Might have started to look at an A6.

There is no other car. But, if I had to pick...I loved the TSX but thought it was too slow. I'd take a serious look at the 2005 Subaru Legacy GT.

Three Wheelin'
Test drove 325i, G35s, ES330, and S60R. Had on list but didn't drive Lincoln LS, Mercury Marauder, and Chrysler 300c. Almost bought the Volvo but couldn't agree on price. Didn't get to drive the others because TL dealer gave me an offer I couldn't refuse. In the end, the TL was the best value and as a 2k TL owner, I knew I wouldn't regret getting another. Have had mine for about 10 days now (WDP/parch/AT/nonav) and don't!

I test drove numerous models, it eventually came down to either the TL or a G35C. I've only recently learned of Nissan's plans to update the G's interior for 05. Done right, that could turn an already terrific car for the money into an unbelievable value.
